After wheeling with the local Jeep club for my first time this past weekend, I have a few questions before I head out again and try some tougher stuff. I know you guys will be able to give me some good answers.
1. Airing down - I have 37x12.5X17 ProComp tires on the stock chrome rims. I aired down to 20lbs this past weekend and they worked well for what I was doing. How low should I go? Should I always air down off-roading (sand, mud, trails)? What do you guys do for airing back up?
2. Sway Bars - Lots of the Jeep guys disconnected theirs; Should they be disconnected in an H2 for trail riding? Any risks/concerns?
3. Lockers / TC2 - When do you use or not use the rear locking diff and TC2? I read a bit about using Brake Throttle Modulation and how it disables TC2. What works best for getting up rocky slopes, through mud, sand, etc.
I'm looking forward to attending some Hummer Club events so that I can learn first hand and see what they can really do.

Re: Off-roading questions
Hey there Norm,
1. 20psi is as low as you should go unless you have beadlocks, like the Staun Beadlocks then you can go down to 0psi!! To air back up if you have the factory air suspension you can use the on-board compressor to air back up, but this is super slow!! You could use a Portable compressor, I use a Warn VTC compressor, which is way faster but I am still disappointed with it's performance...I'll just have to modify it <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> or better than that would be a CO2 tank like the Powertank which can air up our massive tires in less than 60secsc!!! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> However when the CO2 runs out it needs to be refilled!
2. Leave the sway bars connected they give us our balance and protect the suspension components from over extension.
3. OK use neither TC2 or Locker when tranversing regular trail, use TC2 when you encounter lose surfaces that need momentum. Use the locker only for traversing an obstacle that requires it then turn it off to reduce wear on the drivetrain and to make your H2 easier to turn. BTM can only do so much in an H2 as we have an open front differential however it is the best technique for slow and easy going in rocks. For more extreme wheeling You Will Need a Front Locker!!! As all us Quebec Guys know all to well! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' />
Hope this helps!
Kev

Kevin always gives the best advice.. he has taught us all a lot of great things about off roading..
