Help with LEAK!!!

Post by Odie »

Hi I'm very new to this so I will do my best. Bought a 2007 H3X and love it. Owned it for 4 months (no leaks). Got a crack in the front windshield and had the window replaced. Then it started leaking bucks and was dripping down water from up above the drivers pedals. I brought it back 4 times and they couldn't find the leak. Last time it was brought back they removed window, stated everything was fine and put window back. Company also told me they tightened up the bolts under the plastic that surrounds the door frame. This "lose" bolt was apparently just on top of the door frame.  This is the plastic that goes up both sides of the front windshield and along the top sides of the Hummer and all the way back to the roof racks (I hope I explained that ok). They gave vehicle back and now the leak stopped. yeah. Now I took vehicle to a GM dealership and it cost me $380.00 and 5 day later to get the whole carpets dried out they were buckets full of water under it and they had to rip the whole thing apart. NOW comes my need for some help. The company that replaced the window is saying that they replaced it and there was no issues. They are blaming this lose bolt for all the water issues. They are refusing my Claim to pay me back the $380.00. Does anyone in Hummer Land know if this bolt could of actually been the problem?

Thank you all for any help/suggestions.

I used to own a BMW with a similar issue; leaking water into the car, I kept getting told it was the sunroof or a bad door seal. I found out later it was a bad seal on the front window which was leaking water inside along the inside of the firewall.

If you loosen the bolts again and it leaks, then you'd know it was the bolts.  I would think those trim bolts are on the outside edge of the vehicle, and any water that would leak in them would run to the outside of the vehicle and not down the firewall / gas pedal area... but water does take some strange paths sometimes.

Ok the roof rails have to be loosened or removed to replace the front windshield as the top dress piece goes under it . I know I put antenna cable down this path. Also the top cover has rubber flap seals that allow water to travelunder the cover and down by window to drain in edge of door. a loose bolt could cause leaking here and is possibly an after effect of the window replacment

next time if a leak appears try a smoke test a positive pressure is placed in vehicle with a smoke generator leak will show as smoke trail issuing from the vehicle same test is done on homes.
