Kind of an interesting article, being a new member of the Hummer family only recently I can say that I see myself as a defender of truth or perhaps somebody that roots for the perceived underdog.
I happen to work in an industry viewed in the same way as the Hummer, the "evil" Alberta Oil Sands.
Fact of the matter is that the Oil Sands produce only 1.7% as much pollution as US coal power plants. While the real problem (if you can even call it a problem as global warming has pretty much been debunked scientifically now) is the coal plants, the Oil Sands is the scape goat.
Likewise my H3T which viewed negatively when it comes to gas mileage actually enjoys better real world mileage than both the Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline. Although honestly I have yet to meet anybody in person who hasn't been instantly intrigued by it rather than repulsed.
By no surprise my other car is a Honda Fit... which I race... and happen to place well in against cars with two to three times as much horsepower <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/grin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';D' />

Somebody has to stand up for the underdogs, especially when the label is unfairly cast.
How do Hummer owners see themselves?

At shows most people still think our H3 Alpha is a gas guzzeler until at one show 3 owners wrote down our gas kilometerage
our Hummer was beat in city but on highway actually beat the sports cars.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I usually just look in the mirror ... <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
