General Motors Reassures Middle East Clients On Hummer Warranties And Service Support

Post by dwaxman1 »

11 March 2010

DUBAI - General Motors in the Middle East will continue to honour Hummer warranties, while providing service support and spare parts to current and future owners of the military-inspired sport-utility vehicles across the Middle East region for ten years from the date of purchase, the company said.

The US auto giant said the company would also continue to honour its bumper-to-bumper warranty for four years or 100,000 kilometres (whichever comes first) for new and existing customers in the Middle East. The commitment has been supported by advertisements in newspapers around the region.

This follows the announcement that Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co., Ltd. (Tengzhong) was unable to complete the acquisition of Hummer.

Tengzhong was “unable to obtain clearance of the transaction from the Chinese regulators within the proposed deal time frame,” according to a statement from the company.

“We were disappointed that the Hummer deal couldn’t go through, but now we have to focus on providing our loyal customers with quality service and parts they have come to expect from us, while we wrap up the business,” said Fadi Ghosn, GM Middle East Chief Marketing Officer.

Since November 2009, big names in the auto industry announced recalls of their vehicles due to different problems. General Motors Company this month announced its plan to recall 1.3 million Chevrolet and Pontiac vehicles in North America to fix power-steering systems after US regulators received more than 1,100 consumer complaints about failures. GM will replace a motor in the power-steering systems of Chevrolet Cobalt small cars and three Pontiac models, the Detroit-based carmaker said.

The action follows global recalls of more than 8 million vehicles by Toyota Motor Corporation for issues including unintended acceleration, which have prompted lawsuits and Congressional hearings.

The latest recall was announced by Nissan Motor Company on March 3 when the Japanese automaker said it would recall nearly 540,000 vehicles because of brake pin and/or fuel gauge problems. The recall affects six Nissan models (Titan, Armada, Frontier, Pathfinder, Quest, and Xterra) and one Infiniti model (the QX56). The lion’s share of the vehicles were sold in the United States.

Nissan Motor said it would recall 32,147 vehicles in the Middle East, part of nearly 540,000 vehicles recalled worldwide, due to brake pedal defects and faulty fuel gauges. Around 14,010 vehicles could have affected by fuel gauge and 8,126 could have brake pedal issue in the UAE, a spokesperson of Nissan Middle East told Khaleej Times.

Even thought that's great to hear, I'd feel even better if they made some mention to the 4 week wait for parts... Hummer specific parts it seems. How will you fix Hummers without parts GM?! I would like to have "service support and spare parts" much quicker than that please, GM...
