Failed Inspection

Post by 1650shawn »

Just had my 1994 H1 inspected for licensing. Here are the problems they found. If anyone has any info that could help me get passed at inspection,It would be apreciated.

1. Loose steering wheel. I think I can fix it myself. Its an after market steering wheel with a bit of pull in it.

2. Unicure Adventurer tires are not DOT.He says I can bring it back with DOT tires and pass the inspection. Then ,take them off and put the unicure's back on at my own risk.If I get caught, will have to do it all over again.Does anyone know if any other vehicule that has rims that fit on a H1.GM,FORD <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' />???

3. Daylights. Does a 1994 come with daylight switches and relays that just need to be connected,or does ot have to be done from scratch?

Thanks for the input.

For an easy fix for the daytime running lights you can pick up a cheap relay at Canadian tire and then just wire it into your headlights behind the dash. Or for a little bit more you can just pick up a daytime running light kit at Canadian tire that is not to difficult to install.

For tires I am running Goodyear Military tires (I think they were re-treaded!) And I still passed my inspection. You can sometimes get used 16.5 Goodyear Military tires cheap from the states, most seem to have up to 95% tread left and are in decent condition.

Overall, the inspection sounds like it went really well for being a 94 H1. My inspection cost me over $4000 in repairs! :'(

Sorry! One more thing! Some H1's that where made for Canadian customers did come with Daytime running headlights. I have a 95 and it had it (but it doesn't work! ha ha) But the truck also has a KM/H speedometer as well (another Canada upgrade found in the Hummer parts manual). The Daytime running headlight module that was made for the H1 is from the same company that makes the ones for Canadian tire. It is a small black box under the dash with a plug going into it. its called a Hamsar H8003C and that code and name would be written on the black box. Chances are you don't have one.

In regards to your Daytime Running Light

Since I dont know where you are from

In Quebec

Daytime running lights

All vehicles manufactured after December 1 1989 must be equipped with two white or amber day-time running lights on the front. These lights may be alone or combined with the head lights or parking lights.

In Ontario

Daytime Running Lights

(DRL) Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are required by CMVSS 108 [140] on all new vehicles made in Canada or imported after January 1, 1990.

In regards for US vehicles

The U.S. allows the use of DRLs, but they are not mandatory.

For my 98 H1 I used the relay, quick and easy to do. I had a 30amp relay sitting around. If you pull the light switch out there are two heavier wires and two smaller wires. The larger ones are for the headlights and the smaller ones for the parking lights. One of the large ones will have power on it all the time, use this one for the power on the relay. Then tie the switched power to the other heavy wire on the switch. I used the trailer wiring wires for my ignition controlled source and grounded the relay to a existing ground under the dash. After the inspection you can remove this or leave it in. I left it in and it still works like a charm. The Roy Foss dealership quoted me $2100 to hook-up Daytime running lights; this works perfect and only took half an hour to do. If you have any questions send me an email with your number and give you a call to answer them.
