Hummer H1 Engine Replacement

Hello,everybody!

I have question for all owners of Hummer H1. Recently I checked e-bay listing for Hummer H1 and I found out that every second Hummer H1 with mileage less that 100.000km engine has replaced or rebuilt. Why it happened with big diesel engine truck? May be offroading or something else? I never see any other make or model with so many engines replaced?

Any ideas? In future I am planing ,may be, to buy H1. That's why it's interesting for me.

In and around 1999 the 6.5 went to reduced weight standard which caused head cracks,and block cracks. Since then , the 6.5 has been recast and no more problems.My 99 was having coolant problems, cracked #8 cylinder, resleeved it and six months later.... same problem. Fixed it right this time. new style motor and heads. Basically the same cost as having someone rebuild a motor but with a warranty.

Best thing to do is keep an eye open for a used motor out of a van body vehicle. not a pickup.Just in case of a misfortune.Rule of thumb goes that if you have a spare , you will not need it.

The cracked #8 cylinder problem was the cause of the many engine replacements.



If the truck has not experienced it in the first few years, you are good. The problem almost always showed itself within a year or two of driving.

If it has had the problem the engine was replaced, so you are still good.

every vehicle has its own best before mileage ie 2001 4.3 vortec trannys go at about 160,000 km

2001 aztecs blow head gaskets rear one replaced by removal of engine.so stock up on parts.

Do You know what is that mileage limit for 2003 Hummer H2(approximately)?
