In Ontario best to get a bluetooth cb and avoid ticket or have a "radio man " on road. I now have a still camera , a camcorder on tripod and a cb mike need to get an additional arm. In Toronto area try Radioworld.

I was wondering about that new law and whether it applied to CB's. I'm very surprised there wasn't an out cry about it from truckers.

Never trust the "opinion" of an OPP officer to consider being safe or not as they are bias to the interpretation of the law. The use of ANY hand held device that causes the driver to be distracted from the primary resposibility of proper care and control of a motorized vehicle can result in being charged. I have heard of a case in Ontario where an OPP officer charged a driver under the new law for repeatedly taking his eyes off the road and off the steering wheel (he was following the young man who got charged) to change the music on his iPod that was playing through the car stereo system, but the iPod was laying on the passenger seat. Don't know if it will stick, but interesting if it does make it to court.

Safe operation of the motor vehicle should be everyones number one priority.

Interesting loop hole though:

Exemption for pressing buttons

(2) A person may drive a motor vehicle on a highway while pressing a button on a device that is worn on his or her head or hung over or placed inside his or her ear or is attached to his or her clothing and is linked to a hand-held wireless communication device to make, answer or end a cell phone call or to transmit or receive voice communication on a two-way radio or a hand microphone or portable radio.

Sounds like you would be able to use an FRS/CB Radio as long as it "is attached to his or her clothing" or using a hands free mic. You just can't be holding it loosely in your hand or have it sitting on the seat.

Me thinks that there will be a lot of people sewing their hand held device to their clothing!!
