H3 Snorkle Install

Post by shotgun-cam »

You will require a power drill with bits from 1/4to7/16ths (self centering for 1/4 best) ,a 3 1/2" hole saw a dremel type hand tool with cut off discs and a cylindrical drum mill head (to smooth and enlarge hole)or a spiral cutter, Masking tape, sealant glue (goo), locktight blue removable, paint touchup or tremclad ( q tips to apply) ,10 GM fasteners for fender linner, poprivet tool, wrenches and screw drivers.

Okay to start remove antenna from fender mount Cover the flat portion of the fender mount using cutoff disc cut cap plastic only from antenna mount (if you wish paint cap screw to match paint) install extension with cap screw donot reinstall antenna. Remove fender liner by prying push pins out.

Mask fender with masking tape makes it easier to see marks and prevents chipping then tape down template.template should just touch rubber fender seal.

Drill all holes start with 1/4"self centering drill (Sharp point prevents tip from walking on fender surface) enlarge to 7/16" use 3 1/2" for large hole then use cutoff discs to remove new moon shape and smooth with mill head to oval shape.

Image

mask door frame to protect paint.

assemble studs with locktight on snorkle body and install top brace on snorkle test fit snorkle to truck and loosely bolt on using steel drill mark holes on a post with cover on. remove cover 3 clips on front 2 screws under rubber moulding. finish drilling into pillar then paint holes with rust or touch up paint using Q tip (easier than brush or spray) place rubber spacer and hold with tape reinstall cover and gasket on door pillar .(note "rope" by window is our CB cable)

Image

remove airbox from truck clean it (we found our airbox had a rubber gasket extension that when removed allowed new piece to be added without cutting

Image

) with neck closest to front and down use sealant to affix air box together with new neck drill and rivet. loosely rebolt air box into truck. to be continued

OKAY in answer to a question why not use a file( manual) or a jigsaw the answer is the up and down action tends to cause plastic fender to vibrate which can cause cracking and chipping. dremel tool while cutoff discs do foul and break they don't damage fender. Discs are cheap fenders are not.

additional we now have a Sy-Klone 9001 pre air cleaner installed using a 4" to 3" drain pipe reducer which works better than the adaptors sold to do it. Simply loosen hose clamp that holds ARB top ram scoop remove slide on 3" end of reducer place Sy-Klone on top with ejector in rear or hood side. set to height you wish lower is better and tighten the two clamps your done.

please excuse Rhino's pet Tic Bird

This unit saves the truck from the IDIOT factor. Nuts that think an open grill is for dumping stuff in. It is too new to measure it on other levels of performance yet.
