Off Road Field Kit

so Roy, you feel that the OFF Road field kit should include??



Idler arm

pitman arm

tie rods

ball joints

serpentine belt

pully tensioner

alternator (more for road trip then off road isn't it?)



would that be good?? or do you need to add some Half shafts?? That would for sure increase the cost..



let me now what you think..

Well , the basics are covered, now saying that, what else could go wrong ...

drive shaft uni's,

ps hoses

vacuum pump w/pulley

water pump

trany

transfer case

differential

how far do we go to cover the possibilities???

How much tools do we carry??





all are possibilities. So far, I have only killed a vac pump , a ctis line and a tire inlet port--had to break the bead to fix the inlet port as they are bolted from the inside!!



Got to draw the line somewhere.It is up to you, the owner, as to how much to carry. It is also important to be able to fix what you have brought with you.

I have to go with this one. As long as it is a [very good] friend <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... e_wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />, they should be all you need to get out of most situations. While everything else is certainly handy, unless you're tackling Moab or a long way from home, you probably won't need most of it.



But hey - if you have the spare cash, then go for it.



EDIT: I would keep a half-shaft in the back, we had one break before and had to drive home from Long Point with it hanging out.

Here is what I carry in my toolbox (Luckily I have not had to use any of the spare parts on my own truck yet)



-3x Half Shafts (Running 40's I need to bring them)

-Blue Hummer Limp Home kit (short bolts, and plugs if you snap a half shaft, plugs for the differential)

-Front Tie Rod Assembly (Tube and two tie rods, that way I have the right parts)

-Pitman Arm

-CTIS fittings, and shraeder valves

-Serpentine Belt

-Brake Pads

-Computer



My biggest worry with long distances and the truck being potentially disabled by an accessory. Vacuum pumps commonly fail, so do power steering pumps (shafts break). I am disappointed that the accessory system was not designed with two belts, considering the failure rate of some of the parts.



I am on my third vacuum pump and my second power steering pump (third one is going in with my AGR rock ram kit) None of these left me disabled as I found them on their way out prior to any long trips.
