Re: What Alarm System Do You Suggest?

Post by Road Warrior »

Everyone has different preferences, but I have installed them in the past and have had Certified do my latest installs in my Chevy as well as my H2 and the H1 that is sold now and have another H2 SUT that has a Clifford Car Starter only in it. I will upgrade the Brain to alarm/car starter if the price is right or pull it out and install a Titan like my other two already have. Text module for sure too.

My Chev Truck and H2 both have Titan 2 Way Car Starter/Security System that talks to my remote as well as a Text Start interface that if I am out of range of my remote it texts my cell phone to tell me of alarm sounding or intrusion entry and can remote start it from Anywhere I have cell coverage too. Have seen many that are set too sensetive and if a loud muffler bike or truck goes by, nuisance false alarms go off, but that can be set so you know if someone is banging or breaking in and your remote tells you the alarm activated by beeping and vibrating. All in how it is set up.

There are lots of systems out there, but you get what you pay for an the install done right is more expensive then the system because of the electronics in our new toys, data buss operation of many functions including door locks, and bypass modules needed for factory base alarms and VATS, Key recognition needs, and extra relays for the 2 to 3 ignition circuits and accessory circuits that must all be energized during start up.

Just have a reputable shop do the install, Edmonton here, and I stay away from any shop that does an install for 49.00 or 99.00 dollars as you are going to get a rush install for sure and send you on your way.

I do all my own custom electrical wiring, especially for my lighting, and strobe and radio systems, and alarms, but have had certified do my last few alarms when I was busy or went to be a mall rat and have breakfast and let them do the Dealer Approved Install especially when I bought my new H2 in 08. Once there is no warranty or the dealer knows my knowledge, I prefer to do my own but I have done custom wiring for years on all my toys and then I know how and where everything is installed. Each to their own, but I believe in knowing from my remote when my vehicle is going off, so I can go look and know right away as most people ignore them because of the systems that are set too sensetive and go off almost daily especially when a boom box car stereo drives by or a loud muffler.

Just my thoughts and experience and I am sure others will have input that has been good for them as well.

I may even try a new system in my SUT as all the work on this one will be done at home once I get all the lil things cleaned up and all working like new the way I want, and more then one Hummer just means doing at least everything the other one had so it is always an ongoing adventure...... Let us know what you decide to install.

I have had issues with two compustar's in the past. Brain's dieing, remote's no longer functioning, etc. I stay away from them now. They are awesome... when/if they work.

I have a Compustar in My H2 and I must admit I do not like it at all..

Every now and then it seems to lose connection between the main unit and the remote and it almost seems like it panics... I love the remote start etc etc... but the reliability isn't the best...
