have to dust off the old walkie talkies? Does it cost anything to use a CB?? Is a Marine CB out of a boat different than a truckers CB??

Marine radios are VHF and cannot communicate with CB radios.
If the radio from the boat is a CB radio you are fine.
Just turn it on and check the channels.
If you have Channels 1 through 40 you have a CB.
If the channels go higher (to 88) you have a VHF radio which will not communicate with a CB radio.
No, there is no cost other than the purchase price to operate a CB radio.

What should I look for when buying a CB? I dont really need one right now, but figured I might as well look around. Could be handy for future events (or maybe this upcoming event).

Check with Roy about a good CB. He has very nice CB mounts that sit on top of the H1 dog house.

When you get the cb, make sure you get a good quality antenna. The repair guy I seen says a $20 cb gets the same reception as the rest however, the antenna makes a difference.

Depends how often you use it.
Do you intend to permanently install it?
I only need it from time to time, and I have been well served with the one below and a magnetic mount antenna which I plunk on the roof when I need it.
Others like to do a permanent install.
Search the forum for radio and you will see a lot of stuff on the subject.

Im a bit sad to see that you werent served right with the midland. I have the exact same one, and Ive been very please with it.
I had many midland and cobras over the yrs but settled for this one in the H3 because there was no place to mount it in dash.
You need to get the antena tuned with your radio in order to make work well. If the magnetic antena right off the shelf is not tuned and will give poor result on any radio. Even K40 or Big Mama's if they are not tuned for your radio have poor results. Get your antena tuned at any shop that deal with CB and radio installation, you'll get better result. Lebeau, Duro, or any other in that line.
