HELP! Hydra-Boost Failure...

Post by MDimitri »

I took my H2 into the dealership to initally look at a RECALL issue relating to the following: <a href="http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/recalls/ ... ar=&cmd=pr ev " target="_blank">Transport Canada Recall Site</a>

Dealership stated that this problem does not relate to my VIN#, but I asked them to have a look at the brakes due to the fact that I felt there was something wrong with them. They phoned a short while later and I was told that my Power brake Hydro-Boost system was failing (GMPart#15212823-Price $750.00CDN) or (CARDONE Part# 527359-Price $158.00US), after some thought about timing and need for the vehicle I decided to let them go ahead and replace the unit, so far $1,500.00 for parts and labor.

I phoned back to see how things were going and to see when my truck would be ready and thats when the informed me that the calipers were not releasing when brake pressure was applied...F**K!! They informed me that I now need a "Brake Pressure Modulator Valve" cost: $1,450.00 just for the part!! GM Part number is either 88936321(Old SKU #) or 19121235 (New SKU#). I asked WTF?? How could this be?? They replied my brake fluid was contaminated with something...this is a big problem now...the only people who mechanically touch that truck is the dealership...they just finished doing a full warranty & brake check at my big 50...now my brake system is fryed...a sample of the fluid is being sent out for analysis in order to find out what this contaminate could be...my nightmare is now I may have to replace my entire brake system which could run up to $10,000.00 +. Did anyone have this occur to them at all that could shed some light on my plight?? Or at least point me as to where I can save some cash before going down this slippery slope! Is there someone at GM or Hummer I could call?

Mike, someone is taking you for a ride! Obviously someone didn't check the system properly! My Guess is that those idiots misinstalled the hydroboost...especially since the main rod needs to be set just right otherwise the unit is always partly applying the brakes! There is no way that if the brakes worked before that now all of a sudden they are all screwed up...it doesn't work that way! They screwed up!! And btw if the system is contaminated you just have to flush the whole system with new brake fluid, that is if it is just contaminated with old dirty brake fluid or water...if some idiot mixed in any other type of oil then you would need to replace every rubber seal in the system and your brake hoses...I doubt that very much.<DIV> </DIV><DIV>Also what were the signs leading to hydro-boost replacement?? Did you have a hard brake pedal??? Or was it mush?? Mush means master cylinder, rock hard means hydro-boost or power steering pump, were you also having difficulty steering in tight spots?? A quick way for anyone to check a hydro-boost on ALL hummers is to depress the brake pedal 5 times with the engine off then hold the pedal down and start the engine, the pedal should push back and rise up an inch or 2.</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Also, BRAKE FLUID NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS REGULAR MAINTENANCE EVERY 3 YEARS OR 60000KM, NO MATTER WHAT!! This keeps everything working to perfection and removes all contaminants from the system. Gm recommends DOT 3 but when you do the Change use a Synthetic DOT 4, you will raise your boiling point, shorten your stopping distance and almost eliminate seized calipers and the like!!</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kevin</DIV>

I would contact GM Customer Satisfaction. Their telephone number is on their web site. I would simply express the facts that you have here, namely that your dealership is the only place that has touched your vehicle. Do you have an extended warranty on your Hummer?

I am experiencing problems with my car, but nothing like this. I hope that things work out for you! Keep us updated.

He had a nice Brembo brake system the last time I saw his ride. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
