Looking at replacing the batteries in my 96 H1 (diesel). Any suggestions or recommendations?

If you do alot of winching and spend a great bit of time out on the trail I highly recommend an Odyssey Battery (<a href="http://www.odysseyfactory.com/product_list.htm" target="_blank">http://www.odysseyfactory.com/product_list.htm</A>).<DIV> </DIV><DIV>They are very tough and never die even when punished with excessive winching loads!</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>One little problem you need to consider...with the top post present the battery may rub on the hood(found out the hard way!!) So check thru the list and see if you have one that works for you or you can modify your battery bracket to accomodate it. (What I did!)</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kevin</DIV>

Put in the Eliminators, what a difference! I guess my old ones were worse than I thought. I was also looking at the Energizer series at Walmart. 850 CCA, $95 each. COuldn't find any real info on them though.

Anyone try Optima gel cels? I have a red one and though about getting another one to go in the H1 I'm getting soon.

The Optima batteries are amazing batteries! They can take a real beating and keep on working! When installing them in an H1 you will need to lay them on their backs with the side posts up, otherwise the top posts will rub on your hood!!! And no this isn't a problem for the batteries since they can be mounted at any angle without any problem. I would also suggest a yellow top instead of the red top since these are deep cycle and are way better for diesel and winching applications, faster recovery times after repeated abusive loads.<DIV> </DIV><DIV>BTW, The Odyssey batteries are even better...hint, hint!!! Trust me on this one!!!</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kevin</DIV>
