Guys I got this email from member and looking for a bit of advice we can provide. Anyone in Saskatchewan have any insight that can lend??
Hello,
My name is Michael Jones writing from Saskatoon Saskatchewan. I own a 1997 h1 truck and I’m getting a little grief from SaskatchewanGovernment Insurance [SGI]. My questions are: Do I need mudflaps? Do I need fender flares? Do I need a front bumperetc..? As you and I know the H1 was sold to the public by cardealers as it is. Why is SGI giving me a hard time and what do I say toget them off my back? Your help would be very much appreciated.

Why not ask the people at AMG. They can give you all the answers.
I have heard that the Sask. gov has very sticky rules.Motor cycles,customs, have to have reflective tape and a minimum size tail light which on these customs looks like crap.

Unfortunately I don't know...
Trying to lookup Sask's regulations is like trying to read greek.
From what I know though - I believe they require all vehicle to have fenders & mudflaps. Alberta does to but doesn't really enforce it. The only time you hear of them doing it is when they re pissed off at idiotic offroader's that are tearing things up. So they hit them with every fine possible...
If it makes them happy, simply install some aftermarket mudflaps and hopefully they'll leave you alone...

Ok here is what I would do fight the ticket if you have one. Explain the truck didn't come with them on top of that if your truck was certified without them. Before all that talk to your local Ministery on Transportation they have to know the individual laws for ur province.

My first piece of advice to the member is to take his H1 to a different Inspection station. I have had grief getting 15 year old RHD Vehicles registered in Saskatchewan. I've even needed to get one of the head inspectors travel from Regina to Lloydminster to Inspect my first car 6 years ago. Find a different shop to inspect it that isn't going to enforce every little thing. Look at all the farm trucks in Saskatchewan and if they give you a hassle about a well shape H1, same yourself and find a BETTER inspection shop. Mudflaps and reflective tape are not mandatory from my experiences, and to license and register a motorcycle in Saskatchewan all they check is that the VIN's for the engine and transmission match, and the brakes are in good shape.

I've seen this pop up in California as well.
If the truck has OEM tires and wheels, you will not need fender flares. The wheels will sit completely inside of the hood and rear fender. The H1 never shipped anywhere in the US and Canada with mudflaps, they weren't required since the wheel is contained within the rear fenders of the truck and the bumper drops down an additional 5-6" past the fender.
You can/might get a letter from AM General stating that the Hummer meets at Canadian MOT regulations at time of sale.
*IF* you have aftermarket wheels and wide fat tires and they stick out past the fenders, I can see that being a problem. You could swap with a oem set for an inspection then swap back.
*IF* you really need a set of mudflaps, get the HMMWV mudflaps from ebay, they bolt onto the rear bumper and they look cool, since all the current US military trucks have them installed and that's about as close as you can get to OEM mudflaps <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
