Looking at buying a truck from across the country

Post by Waldo »

Looking at buying an H3T alpha, but the problem is, is that the truck is in Ontario and I live in Saskatchewan. I can't take a look at it or test drive it in person anytime soon. Keep in mind I've been looking for one of these trucks since they released in 2009. The truck is from the U.S, mileage is low, and has as close to what I'm looking for as I'm gonna get anytime soon.

Does a guy look into it even though its 2 days drive away from where I am? or wait more for one to show up closer?

Thanks for the help!

I say go for it !

It's hard enough to find an H3T for sale, never mind an Alpha... If you wait I mean one will probably pop up but who knows at the rate these things go up for sale!! Just a tough one to find these trucks...

+1, there are lots of guys from Ontario in this forum that could go have a look, maybe take it for a mechanical inspection for you before you commit to buying it.

As far as availability goes I haven't seen too many go up for sale, Alpha trucks are even more rare. If the price is right I would say go for it.

I have the final production numbers for all H3T's ever made:

2009: 4,736 Units Produced

2010: 945 Units Produced

Approximate Breakdown (based on pre-production targets)

~2800 Alpha's

~1500 Adventure Models (~45 units w/ manual 5-speed)

~1400 Base Models (~50 units w/ manual 5-speed)

Where is the truck located in Ontario?? maybe one of the guys here could take a look at it and make sure it is really worth your trip if you are still serious about buying it... up to you, we have some great guys here in Ontario and alot of them know their trucks, we also have a garage or two that might be able to take a look at it for you to see if it is worth your time, a cheap investment to make sure your trip here is worth your while.

haha, I have combed the internet for the past 2 years for these scraps! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'd really like to find the definitive stats on the breakdown information, especially by color and trim just to see exactly how unique each one really is.

The Alpha's were in high demand because of all the reviews dogging the 5 cylinder over lack of power, they were supposed to account for roughly 40% of the total production, but of the 950 produced in 2010... 849 of them were white Alpha's sold as a fleet deal. That means the final number is around %45-50.

I have zero information or leads for that matter on how many Alpha's came with the off-road package either, my guess is most of them did by default... but nothing concrete to support it.

I do know with the 5 cylinders they sold almost as many without the adventure package as they did without.

The real rarity for these trucks is the manual transmissions, they account for only 3% to 4% of the total number of 5 cylinders sold... with slightly more being sold on the base models than the adventure packages.

I figure my truck is probably 1 of maybe ~20 ever made that are black, have a manual and came with the adventure package. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ot-ssh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ssh:' />

Hi Sugarphreak

Regarding that comment on the white alpha fleet, just found one in the states and in process of finalysing buying it. It came from Avis fleet in Seattle,WA , delivered Apr 18,2010,6,999 miles (+ - 12000km) on odometer White Alpha 2010, Chrome package, sunroof, with off road (but apparently it was not called adventure) package, front and rear locker, 4.01:1 transfer case, 4.10 diff, rear cam, trailering package,on 33". I was about to buy a regular alpha, when i found that treasure and asked the dealer to go get it. it will be here in about 2 weeks.

I dont know what Avis was doing with a adventure alpha as rental but hey,, im extatic about them releasing it,ill be having one of the 850 last made,, but yes there are many in the states for sales and about a dozen in Canada.

Mainwhile my 09 I5 M5 Adventure is for sale,40,000k on meter, dealer is offering me 27500 for it, if anyone is interrested. im just going to transfer the chrome package of the 10 to my 09 and move the black package from the 09 to the 10, not really a chrome fan.

That is consistant with what I beleive to be true about the H3T Alpha models; they just come with all the off-road gear by default. I havn't heard of anybody getting an H3T Alpha without the off-road pacakge.

The only thing with the Avis models to watch for is that On-Star may be disabled or not installed
