Alternator

So I have a 2004 H1 with only 14k Miles and my alternator crapped out. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this happenning on such a new unit. Also, can anyone suggest the best way to go about finding parts. I'm gonna pull the thing out today and hopefully it'll give me a part# but do you think this could be a warranty issue if not with hummer than atleast with the manufacturer? I'd appreciate anyone's 2 cents on this

Go to a automotive repair shop for starter/alternater. Let them repair the unit. Will /should cost less than a new.

Its a gm 173 -124amp alt $340 from the states AMG#6012512

It is out of a GM van with a 6.5L in it. Go to Napa with it and they will cross reference it. It's a standard ALT, and Napa will give you warranty on the rebuilt one.

Markus replaced his lots of times... he knows the part# off by hand.. it was always from Napa

Im almost positive that if you are offroading the truck, that you'll want the proper replacement, and not the Van/cross-ref'd ones, as our alternators are sealed and protected way more than typical 'regular-market' 6.5 alternators were. If the truck is a pavement queen, then I wouldnt worry about it.

I do not believe the alt. is any different then the vans.Water levels for the civilian model is only 36" ,as for the humvee at the height of the air intake. A humvee alt cost a minor $2500 -200 amp.

Only real sealed unit is the starter.So if you do not do water crossings,you could down cost the starter to less then $500 compared to the original at $1200U$

I never had luck with the generic/reman/napa units.



Make sure you take the alternator with you if you get a non OEM/GM/AC Delco unit.



The cross references may have the wrong type of case, or the case may not be clockable to the right position to fit on an H1/6.5 GM bracket, or the bolt may be the wrong size, or the pully may be incorrect for our application.



If budget is a concern, take your hummer to a alternator repair/rebuild shop and get them to rebuild the internals but keep the pully/fan and case. This will run about $75 or so and you have a guaranteed fit.



After dealing with remans/napa stuff that .. on paper said it was a cross reference, there was always some issue I was bumping into.



I wound up getting a AC Delco unit from a Hummer dealer, it was the part from a 1999 diesel GM Savana G-Van. It ran around $350 retail but the shop gave it to me at minimal wholesale with a small markup of around $250-260.



Dropped it in, no issues since.



If I find the AC Deloc part number I'll post it, you may be able to get it from rockauto.com or an online oem parts website for a good price for a new unit [~250]
