H3: Adventure Package or Not?

Post by adventurer »

<P>I'm in the process of ordering an H3 and was deciding if I should order the off-road package.  The salesman has said almost no one orders it and is somewhat steering me away from it.  While I live in a city, I do plan to try off-roading but maybe just a couple of times a year.</P><P>I test drove both the regular and adventure package and noted the following disadvantages of the adventure package:</P><DIV>- rougher drive on regular roads and over bumps (I don't mind this but am not sure about passengers)

- worse handling.  I believe I noticed more body lean when cornering.  Can someone confirm this?  Is it going to be less stable, i.e. more prone to tipping?</DIV><P>An H3 without the adventure package would have reduced off-road performance.  From the specs it has less ground clearance by 1/2 inch; of course will not crawl as slowly, and doesn't have the locking rear differential.  This doesn't sound like a great difference in off-road capabilities but then again I've never driven off-road.  Is there a significant difference between the two when off-roading? </P><P>If it matters, I plan to get an automatic transmission</P><P>Thanks!</P>

Get the package; you will probably regret not getting after it is too late.

Get the Package!!!! It is the single most important option package you can get for your hummer H3...especially if you want to do any off-roading at all in the future! As James could tell you there have been far to many times where he had to reluctantly ask for my assistance...needed to attach a winch, that really wouldn't have been a challenge if he had the Adventure Package. BTW, James makes a sweet custom H3 winch bumper....which you should also consider as well as a T-Max Winch...just so when traction really is not to be had you can winch yourself out, and say you weren't stuck just that you where employing excessively slow forward progress techniques!! <DIV> </DIV><DIV>Get the Adventure Package and then rest easy that you are well prepared for off-road. BTW, the off-road package should have less body-roll due to the stiffer suspension and better shocks.</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>See you on the trails!</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kevin</DIV>

External or internal Systems... I'm very interested If you build the Internal Winch Bumper.</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Thanks</DIV><DIV>Yvon</DIV><DIV> </DIV>

It is not a necessity but if you plan on going off-road the air suspension can help you up and over things that a non-air H2 would get high centered on, as well the ride quality on road is by far better and if you pull trailers the load leveling ability is an added bonus. I would not give up mine for anything in the world! Also it does help your approach and departure angles and can help keep your rear bumper from dragging in dropoffs from ledges. And don't always believe the dealer, they are mostly looking for a sale...get what you want and enjoy!! <DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kevin</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>PS: The on board air compressor also allows you to reinflate your own tires after being out on the trail, or inflating toys for the beach/camping!!</DIV><edited><editID>whitehumh2</editID><editDate>2007-08-12 13:06:29</editDate></edited>
