H1 Emission tests
<P>What are the main issues if it doesn't pass a emission test? A friend mentioned his 2 trucks (not Hummers) don't even get hook up to a machine and he passes.</P><DIV></DIV>

Re: H1 Emission tests
It should pass ok. Use the shop in milton, they have tested them before and know what they are doing (some others have no clue)

Which shop in Milton? The H1 is in Barrie being checked my a guy who use to work on Hummers. If the ownership was in my name I'd be working on it myself but it hasn't been transfered yet.

Re: H1 Emission tests
Actually there are alot of odd things when it comes to emissions testing. First since H1 exceed 8600GVWR normally they are exempt, until recently. Onatrio's Drive Clean Program now is supposed to have mandatory testing for these and heavier trucks. Any emission test that does not hook up the vehicle to a machine...five gas analyser...is NOT an emission test! For diesel vehicles the two big things they will look for is PM, particulate matter, and NOx or Oxides of Nitrogen, both of which are key pollutants for a diesel. To guarantee a pass, change your Fuel Filter and Air Filter and if you can get some Biodiesel into your H1, then you'll be able to eliminate all your worries and your emissions!<DIV> </DIV><DIV>For Gas powered Hummers H1 95-96 and H2s they are looking at HC, hydrocarbons, and CO and CO2, a quick way to help a gas truck pass, do a tune-up, plugs, wires air and fuel filter and if you really want to eliminate you emissions than get a Fitch Fuel Catalyst, it will come close to dropping your emissions to that of a mid-szed car! Re: H1 Emission tests
<P>Actually there are several aspects to this emissions testing stuff. Normally due to the fact that an H1 exceeds 8600GVWR, they are usually exempt. However with the New Drive Clean program in Ontario this is no longer the case. All vehicles are supposed to be having to pass a yearly emissions test. For Diesel vehicles they are looking for 2 main things: PM or particulate matter and NOx or Oxides of Nitrogen, both of which are the key pollutants of a diesel. PM is the soot you see as black smoke or unburned diesel fuel, and NOx is the combined effect of a diesel under load, NOx will show HC, CO and CO2 levels far better than they could be seen by themselves. To do an emission test you need a five-gas analyser, to do a diesel emission test since the vehicle must be under load you need a dyno, four wheel dyno if you plan on actually testing an H1. So since most shops are not equipped to do this they do a PM test which is only a visible test to see if there are visible emissions after 10seconds after start-up, Black smoke at start-up is allowed. Not a really scientific or accurate test but without connecting any vehicle to an Analyser you will never get an accurate emission test. Things to do to lower your emissions, replace your air filter, fuel filter and run Biodiesel, want to lower it further still, try a fitch fuel catalyst which can lower emissions by up to 80%!!!</P><DIV> </DIV><DIV>I have done alot of modification to my H2 and now have emissions lower than that of most mid-size sedans, which freaks alot of people out..since everyone believes that if it's big it pollutes and if it's small it doesn't!</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Hopefully I have cleared the air for you a bit!!</DIV><DIV>(Pun Intended!)</DIV><DIV> </DIV><DIV>Kevin</DIV><edited><editID>whitehumh2</editID><editDate>2007-07-23 04:55:53</editDate></edited>

Re: H1 Emission tests
Thanks for the info Kevin. Diesel is new to me which is why I want to learn as much as I can. I though becasue of the weight of the H1's they may do a closer test.<DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV>Joe
