95 - H1 will not go into reverse....

I was out with my H1 this weekend and came to a dead end on a trail. When I went to reverse it worked for about 20ft then my truck came to a stop. I went forward and tried again and got even less distance. On attempt 3 I did not move. After winching myself around I was able to get out as all forward gears seem to be just fine!!! When you go from park to reverse you can not hear or feel the transmission engage. There are no leaks and the fluid is clean and at a good level. Does anyone have ideas as to a possible cause? or possible solution??

sounds like the reverse band cracked

odds are you be removing tranny

it is a 4l80e in there rigth ?

So I have taken my H1 into a local transmission shop and they are telling me the trans needs to be rebuilt....

Any thoughts on this?

Are they trying to take for ride??

i wouldnt be surprised if it needs it mine had 69000 kms on it and third was smoked had fillings throughout ran me about 2800 with new torque converter and updates carlos at transmission technologies in cambridge eagle street excellent guy

or get a second opinion could be a variety of issues that led to failure of loosing reverse

odds are its a reverse band kindfa acts like a clutch if its worn or started to fail u would have no reverse at all but be able to drive forward no problem

Does the trany oil smell burnt?? Black?? Low when in park running??



Check with another trany shop just for a second opinion.
