H2 dash lighting

I purchased my 2005 H2 used.I recentley noticed that there is no back lighting for the dimmer thumb wheel ctrl. ,the rest of the headlite ctrl area is back lit I asked my dealer if the dimmer ctrl. wheel back lite was burnt out.They said no,this is the way G.M. built it Are they correct?
