Well guys into my 3rd week of ownership, and the maintence starts to add up <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I love workin on the H1, and i knew that it would be a maintenece extensive vechile, but now im in a bit of a pickel.
Last week i did a full flush and fluid change on all the geared hubs, diffs, and transfer case, as well as the transmission about 2 weeks ago. And have been enjoying every bit of it.
But now im on kind of a tight scheduel on getting some parts for my rear caliper (got a trip up north planed for this upcomming friday), On friday i had to do kinda a sudden stop while driving though a sub division, noting too agressive but more then i perfered, the brakes are awesome on this thing. I didnt drive the truck yesterday, and today while i was out with my other car my dad noticed a slight dripping comming from the rear diff. Upon closer inspection tonight it looks like my rear driver side caliper is leaking around the pistion. I found the seal kit online 5744405 (or 5744403) but it will probably take more then 2 weeks to get them up my way. I was just wondering if by chance anyone around toronto has a set or know of where i could get a seal kit localy. It kinda sucks too because the front calipers are a jeep caliper and i can get the parts from napa, but the rears are natve to the hummer due to the parking brake setup.
I have the master service manual for my 2002 that has the rebuild steps and it looks to be pretty straight foward.
Any help would be awesome! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' />

Even though I agree it is a good idea to replace the seals in the rear calipers from time to time, it is much more common for the differential seals to leak and then drip onto the breaks and calipers (two of my rear calipers are soaked due to this!). Did it look like break fluid or gear oil??

I checked the diff when i was under there yesterday, everything looks good. It was definetly brake fluid, when the pedal was pressed, brake fluid driped from around the cylinder seal.
So yesterday after tinkering around trying to get the top caliper bolt off, and the brake line off, got the caliper on the workbench and began dissasembling it. Right away i found the problem, looks like someone before did a lousy rebuild and only replaced the o ring on the center cylinder retaining bolt, however with just a standard o ring, not one rated for brake fluid. Shure enough when i pulled the bolt out, the o ring fell apart in 100s of peices.
Got the rebuild kit on its way from Roy, ill replace all the seals in the caliper regardless just for peice of mind. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Cylinder bore and pistion have no scoring or marks as well.

Re: Brake caliper help
Just finished installing the rear caliper and bled the lines. And were all good to go now <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' />
Brakes are good as new. Overall im actualy surprised how sensitive the brakes on the H1 are. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... rgreen.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> i thought the brakes on my sports car were touchy
