Local guy fined for driving off the trails

Post by JL »

I caught this in the local paper this week about the local wheeling spot... Apparently dude here decided to drive off the designated trail and down the creek (2km from the designated creek crossing?!) and got himself stuck. The authorities apparently found him before his friends did and they're fining him $2000 under the Fisheries Act for destroying habitat!

My gut tells me the guy was being a sh!t head and honestly... 2km off the trail down the creek... hard to argue against that when you know you're supposed to stick to the trails!! But $2000 is a hefty fine whatever your take on this guy!! Apparently because his truck had a camper on it he must not have been 'offroading' thus he is innocent...

I dunno, that's a hefty fine for sure but can you really have much sympathy for the guy? 2km off the trail and down the effin creek!?!?! Look at the photo in the article and that bank to the right where he appears to be pointed... where was dude planning to go?! Now I'm no expert BUT from the pic and how close he seems to the mountains he's not too far in the bush, and for quite a distance at the trail head the trail runs right along the creek so no doubt buddy here was just cruising down the creek until he found his friend's camping spot as he states (which no doubt is accessible via the designated trails...)

Full article from the local paper.

I am glad he got fined, but at the same time I know this is going to spark the interest of the province revenue collectors.

I have not heard anything like this here in Ontario but that doesn't mean anything, we need to try and always stick to the trails, people are always looking for any reason to bitch about Hummers and what we do to the environment, so we need to make sure we are extra careful. Just yesterday we had someone give John a hard time and to quote john " we leave things the way they are and we bring out everything we brought in.. therefore no garbage on the trails" Trails in Ontario are getting fewer and fewer and we need to make sure we keep the ones we have, soon this will domino out..

and where was that guy going?? there is a rock face directly in front of him.. and in a pickup with a camper.. not sure if this is truly offroading..if he was trying to join his friends, well not sure where they would have been.

Anyways too many unanswered questions to pass judgement..but sucks anyways...and an Ontario guy to boot...

Well it's not good to judge people without knowing the whole story, however in this case it seems pretty simple. And, in my opinion anyway, the guys picture says a lot, he looks like the "know it all/don't give a crap/sh1t disturber" kinda guy to me anyway. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

Water looks like it's running kind of fast to try and drive in, in a camper.
