Actually, H2s do not have a tie-rod problem, not in any way! Trust me! The issue with breaking tierods comes as a result of worn out idler and pitman arms. It can also be caused by a weak tie rod end, that is worn out or damaged. But hear me clearly NO H2 has a tierod problem! To make sure you don't experience any breakages offroad, all H2 owners should install the cognito pitman and idler arm brace kit, this prevents the centerlink from rolling back and causing the tierod to pull the tires into excessive toe in and if underload will cause a tierod end to break! There is no need to upgrade the tierod ends, only do the aforementioned upgrade and enjoy the peace of mind! Remember if you upgrade your tierod ends which are not the problem you will cause something else to break higher up! A tierod end is a relatively fast fix, if you have both ends, about 20 to 30 mins., but consider a steering box or pitman arm or idler arm, no way you are going to change those in the bush!

Both stock trucks and modified trucks have the potential for breakage. However a properly built truck will allow the breakage of a cheap easy to replace parts to protect large expensive parts. Example, I would rather destroy a universal joint instead of a differential or rear axle shaft or transfer case. I would rather scrap a front axle shaft than a front diff or transfer case. I would rather break an easy to replace tierod end then rip a steering box off my frame.

Remember the right upgrades; front and rear lockers, 1541H axle shafts, idler arm and pitman arm brace kits will allow you to offroad with more peace of mind and you will have to spin you tires a lot less! As well, don't be afraid to use the winch! Some guys think it shows lack of skill...actually it shows wisdom, and finesse and allows you to offroad without damaging your truck and the environment! The most important thing that everyone needs to remember when offroad...know your own personal limits! If you need help ask! If you feel something is too hard, tell the others, so maybe you can find an easier route. Remember we are all brothers and we all need to help each other out!

Just my 2 cents!

Would have loved to have been there.... Would have loved to do that tippy run off that trail again... Always better the second time as you know you can do it...

But priorities were to family and I can happily say that I picked up my uncle from the hospital today and he's doing great, fate has never been kind to me and I simply didn't want to take a chance....

Raring to go next time!!

Wow great videos JL, was interesting to see other trucks and even myself from another perspective!

Really hoping to get my suspension kit in before the next run, it should smooth out my front suspension so it articulates with the ground better. As it is now it feels jumpy and unstable. Going up that hill it was bouncing all over the place!

Did you guys want to do our annual meet & greet in December btw? I am down for the spray lakes trail again, but we could shake it up and find another backroad and place to eat for this year.

Hey Greg! You nailed it! Your absolutely right it was driver error, and I did learn from my mistakes! And still hold by not getting stuck in there so worth the minor breakdown to learn more! I wish I could have continued to the fall with you and that's why I asked if you thought it was to rough for me to make it! Unfortunately it will be something that will have to wait till next time. But I must say although an early ending it was a blast and we did limp it home ok

Definitely liking that idea! If we can drive the Powderface trail I think that'd be a great trip, although it closes some time in December (I think December 1 actually...) until May so might not be possible...

It's a great road though, it spits you out on Sibbald Creek trail which is what we took last year to the Smith Dorian/Spray Lake trail... I drove a ton of back roads this Summer and the Powderface was really the standout so if it's open I think we gotta check that out!!

Lemme see if I can recall a few other nice drives that don't have seasonal closures... I did the Highwood pass in K country which is another really nice drive but with seasonal closure. The highest elevation paved pass in all of Canada and a really nice drive!! You also get to experience the WORST paved road conditions I have ever seen on the way home, road completely sunken in and rather than repair the road they've installed TRAFFIC LIGHTS so people can take turns driving around!!! Unbelievable but good for a larf...

I broke down my first time out with the club and have done my share of 'fun' but crazy things... lol Even managed to grenade the front diff on my old H3! So yes I drive like a grandma now but so far it's been trouble free driving with my H2. In the new year I'm going to be looking into a front locker as I think that's probably the best upgrade for an off road H2... just gives you so much more control with so much less wheel speed. I think 90% of the trail breaks I've seen are wheel speed related so my rule now is if I can't get up / over something with minimal wheel speed I get out of it or call for a tug... But whatever happens out there, it's all good and all part of the fun Image

Until next time!!!!

I think we were talking about taking the trunk road all the way to the end and then grabbing some grub at a pub last year. I will start up a discussion thread for it.

Powderface is one of my favorite roads but doesn't really go anywhere except hook the back end of Bragg creek to the sibbald creek trail... Awesome drive though! It's open to the 15th ofndecember as long as they didn't change anything..

I suggested the road ending up at the pub in water valley, but true enough I have never been in it yet and I guess B-Man was saying its a little shady in there....
