Heated seats

Post by HummerBee »

Took my 05 H2 to the local GM dealer to get my seat heaters checked out because they weren't working. The rear heaters work, but both front seats are not warming. Indicator lights only flash on for a beat and you can hear a click from under the drivers seat. No heat at all. Service advisor tells me I need new seat skins which was pretty much what I expected from my own internet search. The big surprise was cost $1650 for drivers side skin and $1600 for passenger

Does any one have any suggestions for where I could source cheaper seats than $3250 for the pair??

HOLY SH......T! I have the exact same problem, only I am getting close to find where the exact problem is. If I lean forward in the drivers seat and tilt the seat back, back and forth a little I can many times get the heat to stay on, however as soon as I touch around the higher area of the seat back, off it goes. I was able to repeat this many times the other night. So at least I know which seat it is. I am now trying to narrow it down exactly, to make sure it simply isn't a broken/loose wire. If it is the heating element I may look at jumping it with a power resistor so the system thinks both are functioning and turns on, that way I will have some heat versus none at all.

I can't believe the skins are that much! How the heck do you get them off and back on again? <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' />

Derek might know someone . Let him know the color , add a quick pic of interior . Maybe be cheaper to find some used ones if it presents itself . Also for your self . Find out what years the same seat set up was used from . So if a 2003 , 2004, 2005, are same . That increases your odds a lot . I am not a H2 EXPERT BY ANYMEANS ! I am sure the H2 people will way in here and give all the info needed . Good luck and don't get to GRRRRRR . It could of been something allot more

Mine is all black leather. I haven't tried myself to look at how the seats would be skinned. I'd want to leave that to someone with more experience than me in upholstry etc.

I thought I'd read somewhere on another forum that replacement cost was like $600 a piece, but maybe that was a GM forum and seats for a Silverado or Sierra. Maybe Hummers used better leather or something? I dunno.

I also have to replace the temperature sensor in the headliner. Heater would only pump out hot air if the controls were set to 32 C. Funny thing is, the sensor was missing all together, not sure why the previous owner would remove that. At least that's only a $56 fix.

I messed around a little more with my seats today. Spent more time with the electrical diagrams etc. I know (I think) what I'm looking for to confirm the element connection, problem is, I can't get to it without taking out the driver's seat. I'm not about to get into that level of things at this time of year as I don't have a garage the Hummer can fit into. So, I think I'll have to live with a cold arse for the winter and get back into it in the spring.

Image UPDATE! A friend directed me to heatedseat, check it out! Looks like I might be able to solve my problem for $100! And they they have good DIY instructions and diagrams. And you can retain the factory switches for a stock look. I am going to order a unit on Monday when I can talk to customer service. The GM service guy had told me that it was because of an open circuit in the drivers side seat bottom that neither front seat would work.(Isn't it ridiculous that the two seats would be tied together in such a way?) I'll want to check first if by replacing only the driver side element both seats will indeed work again and if not, order both elements at the same time. I will keep you updated!

Another update! leatherseats -all the info you need on how to skin down leather seats or to redo an entire interior if you wanted to!

And if you don't have a garage big enough to work in, I found a strap on type seat heater at Canadian tire on sale for $10, keeps your bum toasty! Better than cold leather on those really frosty nightsImage

And way cheaper too!!!! on H3 Alphas the switch is baddly placed causing accidental switch activations nothing like a toasted butt in 30+ degree weather. Also the passenger side seat bezel on bottom keeps popping off.
