Both are definitely on the premium end of things, a little pricey when compared to other brands. But overall both seem pretty well regarded! I'm an Amsoil guy myself, not really for any specific reason other than I've had good results with it. I switched over all fluids to Amsoil on my H2 when I bought it and found it made a noticeable difference in 'smoothness' for lack of a better term. The motor runs smoother, tranny seems to shift nicer, drives smoother down the road... I dunno maybe there's some placebo effect going on here but generally speaking have had the same results on my other vehicles as well! I run their HDEO Series 3000 oil in my supercharged Mustang and having tried many other brands, the motor loves that stuff and is the only thing I will put in it now. It's an older 5.0 that has consumed a moderate amount of oil after installing the supercharger a few years ago and with the Series 3000 it does not use a drop of oil between changes. This for me is the only 'measurable' benefit and I have no idea the science behind it, but nothing else works like this stuff!

Nothing against Royal Purple since as I say, both are generally well regarded. Just happened to have good luck with the Amsoil so I stick with it. Many of the other Alberta members swear by the Amsoil so for what it's worth seems like good stuff! I've also heard of many people who swear by the Royal Purple so to each his own! Probably can't go too far wrong with either!

I've run both in my cars before, I don't have much to say about RP other than it seems to perform like any other synthetic, no better and no worse. I don't really think it is worth it for the price and the purple colour is kind of odd.

Amsoil fluids on the other hand is definitely my preferred choice, it make a huge difference on my manual transmission recently and I can only imagine it does the same for the rest of the components. I will be running it in my transfer case, diffs and transmission from now on.

I would run Amsoil for engine oil as well if it wasn't so expensive. Instead I usually run Pennzoil Platinum these days which has cleaning additives in it and is widely considered the best budget synthetic out there for newer engines. With my old car the oil I ran in it in the past always came out roughly the same colour, after using Platinum I noticed it came out very dirty on the first change and super clean on the next... so it actually cleans a lot of stuff out of the engine that other oils left behind.

On another note; I changed out the conventional oil that Shaw GM had put in... the stuff was like black goo and I only got about 4L out of the 5.7L that was supposed to be there, never again will I get dealer oil.

I have had good luck with Royal Purple in the past. I know that almost all of the Edmonton Z Club owners run it in their cars. I almost went Royal Purple in my 3000GT before going Redline. I think it all comes down to personal choice. Some 3000GT owners claim one is better than the other in the cars, and I just leaned towards which one had more people claiming better results. The differences in terms of performance, etc. are likely in the fractions of percent, but hey, I'll get what I can get. Anything is better than what was in it when I bought it. Pulled the plug on the transfer case and I maybe got four or five ounces of goop. Transmission wasn't much better. Differentials only marginally better. So anything in my 3000GT was better than what was in it when I got it.

I was talking to Travis at Rubberduck 4x4 and he told me to put (if I could) royal purple power steering synth oil in my newly installed rock ram system so I am guessing it must be good!

I need to flush and refill my power steering system on my Mitsubishi so this might be an option too. I had intermittent four-wheel steering warning lights until I added Lucas power steering fluid, but when I flush and refill the system, I'll be starting from scratch, so Royal Purple might be an option.
