I just ordered my compressor so I'll be able to air down a bit more than usual so we'll see what kind of difference that makes - down to about 18 - 20 as I still dunna wanna pop a bead... I wish I had thought of bead locks when I got my rims, I'm thinking of trying to sell them as a set come spring and then get 18 beadlock rims with Toyo MT's on them.
I decided with the Smitybilt portable as have been reading really good things about them and that's what Rick has and he aired his 37's back up in about 15 minutes. I've been waiting on doing something fancy but I finally realized... WHY? portable is also more versatile!

I wouldn't do beadlocks Dave, they require a lot of maintenence and as I recall are actually illegal to use on public roads. becides, I highly doubt you will ever pop a tire as long as you have 15psi or more.

I've run 18psi the last few times (with the Stauns Nick hooked me up with!) and gotta say I'm thinking that's a good pressure... Seeing a good squish from the tires but nothing excessive like I'm about to run on the rim, and traction is feeling quite good as well!
One nice thing about running an air tank though is that if you ever DID pop a bead you'd have one hell of a time seating it again without a decent volume of compressed air... An old trick I learned is to run some heavy grease around the bead which should seal enough air in the tire so the bead can seat, if you can't give it that quick burst from an air tank. Also works if you were to try seating a damaged bead or a bent rim... As always though best fix is probably a full sized spare!!

External bead locks are illegal. Internal beadlocks are fine.
I did the TransAlta road on Boxing day. There's a really nice waterfall along the way that'll probably have some ice climbers on it. There're also some totem poles that I found beautiful on the way. Look in a clearing on the right - a logged area - and you might catch one about 100' from the road.
It's an easy trail that's very rough. Brutal rough. JIGGLE, JIGGLE, JIGGLE - RATTLE, RATTLE RATTLE - but it's worth it. At least to me it is.
Be prepared for snow drifts. Make sure that at least someone has a strap.
I can't make it but you guys have a great time.

That waterfall has peaked my interest for sure, I will have to keep an eye out for the totem poles!
Too bad you couldn't make it Greg, I am actually hoping we do hit some big drifts along the way to play in!

I went to the normal waterfall last Thursday and I needed to winch myself out of a drift...... They're solid as hell!
I'm sure you guys will have a great time! The waterfall out there is HUGE.

Sounds like the perfect trip to air down a bit more than usual to absorb some of those bumps! LOL all the H2's do it rattle so a few more won't hurt!
Keep forgetting about that legallity thing.... So why are they illegal here? Have they been know to fly off in the past or something?

Airing down may be a problem. A decent speed on the road is 50 to 60kph - maybe too fast for soft tires.
Honestly, the first part of the road is just painful. The last part is very pretty - nothing a rented Subaru couldn't do - but very nice. Having said that, if it's 'blown in' it may be quite difficult.
External bead locks need to be checked from time to time - to make sure all the bolts are tight. That, I believe is why they are illegal.
I don't understand the rational behind many of our laws but that may be the rational behind this one.
