HUMMER H3 Winch

Hi, I am looking to install a winch to my HUMMER H3 Alpha. What kind of winch would you guys recommend me? Electric or Hydraulic? I am planning to use the winch for off-road recovery. Please leave a good brands/models of winches for pulling 8 000+ kg. Thank you!

I'd suggest going with an electric winch, easier to install and probably a better choice for an H3.



8000lbs is pretty small, I'd suggest looking at, at least a 9500 or larger for an H3 unless you want to be using snatch blocks for everything.



The other thing to consider when sizing is amprage draw; a 9000lbs winch pulling 5000lbs plus resistence weight will draw nearly the maximum aprage (say 400amps) where a larger winch will draw signifigantly less (maybe only 250amps). This is easier on your batter and the winch, plus you can pull for longer.



I personally have a T-MAX 12,500lb winch on my H3T. I've only had to use it once for recovery (and once to straighten out somebodies side steps) and it worked great, lol.



Up to 9500lbs Warn seems like a decent winch, above that weight I've heard mixed reviews. Warns seems to work great for little Jeeps and Toyota's, but not the greatest winch for larger vehicles. T-Max is one of the favorites among the CHC guys, also MileMarker winches.

Cool! Is it better to have a winch with a wireless or a wired remote? What would you recommend? One my friend recommended me to go with Superwinch or Warn. Which is the best brand in quality and power? Now I am looking for a winch that is capable of 13 000 lbs and more....

I have the T-Max 12000lbs Outback series on mine it comes with a wired/wireless handle. took me a while to figure out how it worked. The handle if plugged with the wire it works normally but if not connected to the wire,,it works wirelessly. Nice feture whan you have to be a bit far away, it works up to 35 feets. My winch since install has been use once on the last trail Ive done, winter trail on dec 10. few picture in event or crazy offroad picture in this forum.

As for what is the best, well here, we had many Warn faillure on many outgoing, but like anything else, proper use, proper equipment, and training, may have prevent faillure or not. But 12000lbs 12500lbs is already twice the H weight when suggested rate is 1.5 veh weight you should be good in the 12-12.5k

Thanks a lot guys! I am now having a close look at the T-MAX Outback Series. At the mean time should I get a winch with a built in air compressor or should I get it separate?

I've only seen Warn with built in compressor, from what I've read it doesn't have very good reviews

Another brand is from Rugged Ridge,(I sell them), 10500#, no remote, Cost is nice----

steel cable $600, synthetic $795. Sold a few with no complaints.

If you plan to mount it into a bumper, make sure you ensure you check out the physical the size of the winch to ensure it will fit with no issue.
