At my wits end!
ok, i am a woman on my own, with a 2007 Hummer H3. This "no power locks and drivers window" thing has happened twice, both times because my battery died. Last time after 2 hrs of screwing around i got pissed and connected and disconected the battery terminals a bunch of times and it started working. This time i've tried that and everything else I've read on here and other sites and nothing is working!!! I am 5 hrs from any mechanic that will even look at it... what do i try next???

It might sound like a stupid qustions but it will give a good insight of the cause.
1. Why did your battery died twice already? like,
(is there something still ON 24/7 when you're not using your vehicle)
2. is it still the original battery?
( 5 yrs for a batery that live in extreme climate is very hard on it and may need to be changed)
3. how many milleage are you doing a day?
( if you're doing only a few km a day ( under 5 ) to go to work and back, your battery doesnt have time to recharge due to lack of charging time. so after a time, in cold weather, your battery doesnt have enough charge to start your H. and it will have to be change almost within a yrs or 2 )
with at least those 3 questions we can start to narrowing on the problem and offer solutions.
Regards
Arch

Re: At my wits end!
Thanks Arch,
The first time my battery died was right after I bought it, so I changed it to a brand new one. That was 13 months ago, so when it happened again last week when the weather hit - 35 and the truck plugged in, out came the battery and back to the store I bought it from. They gave me a brand new one on warranty and thats what's in there now.
And yes I do not go far to work and back everyday, but with that brand new battery shouldn't that have enough charge? I figured when I put the brand new battery on, it would reset the problem but it hasn't this time. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='???' />

Re: At my wits end!
the thing when you dont go far to work,, you're running only on battery power, and if there isnt enough time to recharge, at one point in time it will runn out of juice,, i would say every 3 -4 days,, take your H for a spin 30 min or let it run for a good while so that the battery will have time to charge. You could also have your alternator check to see if the output is adequate. Maybe your alternator doesnt charge enough.
as for the door lock not working, maybe a wire in the conduit between the door and body is damaged, can the door be unlock from the passenger side? if yes, maybe the switch is defective. if not a fuse may be burned check fuse #8 it control pwr locks drv side
For the windows, check fuse #64 or #68 they are the pwr windows fuses to find their location look at the layout below

Re: At my wits end!
Sounds like the battery might have trouble charging? Alternator might be something to look into. Also, see if the terminals of the battery cables are corroded. Try cleaning them. Good luck finding the problem.

Re: At my wits end!
Unfortunately it has been my experience over the years that GM suffers from a lot of electrical gremlins and I have had issues with all of my gm's which is why I vowed to never own one again.... But they had the rights for Hummer.
I would say that there's definitely a charging issue and the alternator needs to be looked at. I know on the H2 the PCM controls the alternator, I dunno if that is the case on the h3's but something to consider.
Weird things happen when things aren't charging properly but usually disconnecting the battery for a minute will reset the computer and the "glitches".
I'd start with a charging test on the alternator.... Gm also isn't know to have great ones either.... I'm on my third...

Re: At my wits end!
Thanks for all the replies, I have cleaned the terminals many times, had the alternator tested last time this happened (when i made it up to the city) and everything is fine. The auto lock on the passenger side does not work either, and the power window on the drivers side. I know its the same problem as last time, i just can't seem to get it to work like last time! And yes i have took out, checked and put back all the fuses involved.... The main pain in the butt about this is the back gate wont lock, the rest i can lock manually. And the window....well i live way up north and i would never have the window open right now anyway... I'm gonna keep trying stuff today, fingers crossed!

As a GM Tech and a Tech who also works on a lot of other vehicles, I would have to say that GM does not have a lot of electrical problems, nor are there problems with the alternators. In general if you are frying alternators you need to check your chassis grounds and your power cables.
For the door issues, simply disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery will not reset most problems, you need to remove both terminals and hold them together for a minimum 1 min, more is better. Then reconnect the battery terminals positve first then the negative and test your systems. By doing it this way you will have drained the batteries in the on-board computers and reset their memories to zero thereby removing most problems. If the problems continue to occur then you most likely have a broken wire or defective part.
Btw, Dave, if you want to see a vehicle that has multitudes of electrical problems...try a Volkswagen!!! Very Scary, what they consider «Normal»!!!

Re: At my wits end!
Ya, Ok, been out there for 2 more hrs in -24, clamped both terminals together for at least ten mins, again used a wire brush on the terminals, and disconnected and reconnected the wire harness at the driver side door opening.... No luck! <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Re: At my wits end!
When this happens does the truck start? and How easily does it start. If truck starts easily then battery may not be the problem. Also when cleaning battery posts clean all the connections ( the plate and its screw posts as well ) Check that any side posts are covered ( I've a friend that had a cracked cover allow a charge to slowly leak off).
Are the back doors working or is it all the doors save the back cargo door. If back door is not working wires are broken ( most likely at the hinge. This may cause door signal to short out and fail to operate other locks.
You may also concider a Booster box ( a battery with an ac charger that can boost your truck) We have one for Rhino so we don't have problems at shows when lights may get left on. In fact we used it for lights on Rhino at Xmas. they cost about a hundred dollars.
