I agree with both Roy and Kevin but I must say I like the 98 truck the best.. I like to have the pre TT4/ABS trucks.. I ahve a 96 and brake throttle modulation is a great feel when you off road, it is the TRUE military feel and the way Humvees are still built today.

Roy is correct on the #8 issue, if you want to avoid that get a 96 like me but then you will have HVAC issues, like me ;<img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... /angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

anyways, what ever year you get, I am sure you will love it...and we all have our preferences...and it will depend on what you want to use the Truck for....

enjoy and keep us posted..

I'm pretty sure the #8 issue started on the 96 Turbos. Not sure if the 96 NAs were from the same casting.

Well let me just say that when the right one is found.. would love to have you out on our off road adventures!

There's a bunch of western Canada members and we hit the trails at least once a month, just outside of Calgary. Our old Hummer friend Karl is also from Lethbridge and while he sold his H2 he did make the journey to wheel with us every opportunity!

Really a great group we have here, I've been with the club for about 2 years and am on my second Hummer, first an H2 and trader it for my current H2. I think I've missed like 2 events since I began going so I definitely make an effort to get out as much as possible... Can't get enough that is for sure!!

At any rate when the day comes, lots of adventures to be had Image

Hi There

I just put 1 of my H1's for sale.. alot of the guys know my truck here... it runs well on and off the track... it's in great shape and I have added alot of things you will need to guarantee your truck still runs well when you come out of the bush and onto the highway.. it is high priced but its because it is a strong and very clean truck... I have it in the auto trader right now for 55,000 $ email me or you can call me if you want... 613-330-9791

Thanks Threeman [quote name='nitrous' timestamp='1327452782' post='34665']

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and have been looking for an H1 for several months now. I'm in Western Canada but willing to travel cross country for the right rig. I have seen a few in Alberta but they have all needed a lot of work, been gas engines, or way overpriced in my opinion.

I'm looking for the 1995 - 2001 model range, as the ALPHA is out of my price point. What do you guys think is a good price range for H1 in Canada?

Do you know of any for sale that you would say are top quality rigs that are ready to go hit the trails and the highway rather than heading straight into the shop?

I'm no CEO and don't have CEO money, however I grew up with the H1 posters on my wall as a kid and went straight to the H1 exhibit at each and every Detroit auto show, so now that I have a bit of free cash I'm looking to fill that spot in the driveway.

Any help you guys can provide would be great.

If you just want an inexpensive offroader, there is a 96 2 door hardtop for sale now here in BC for $22k. It can definitely due with some new paint and a new front bumper, and I don't have any specific details on the truck.

Thanks JL I'll definately get in touch with you when I find the right rig. I'll have a lot to learn in the new rig so going out with a group will be great.

Indy, thanks for the link 22G definately a nice price. and I agree it could use a little TLC. That bed liner that HeavyDE used on that one H1 would look pretty good on an H1 truck.

Generally there's a few lines of thought. Go with a nice older non turbo truck [mechanical injection, and keep it simple] or get the newest you can afford that's been well maintained [ideally from "a CEO" vs a backyard mechanic, a guy with a ton of service paperwork].

That's going to be harder to find if you limit yourself to Canada, you may want to shop south of the border for trucks.

Most problems on an H1 is electrical [Injection pump PMD] and the lack of maintenance.

If I had my time back I would have probably gotten an older H1, a 95 NA with roll up windows and kept everything basic. One of my friends sold his 2-3 Alpha's and gotten an 92 and a 95 instead and hes happy with those, they just run and run. Highway speeds aren't the best but the non turbo trucks can go anywhere off road a turbo diesel can.

I wouldn't pick up a project truck [that's been beat on] unless it's really really cheap. I'd get something in good cosmetic shape, if you have to dump money into it to get it fixed then at least it's easier to sell down the road.

I'd budget a few thousand dollars up front to get the maintenance/catchup issues over with. First thing I'd do with a used truck is put in new ball joints, new pitman and idler, control arm bushings, alignment and a full service.

I guess the big question is what is your planned use? Occasional weekend driving? Daily driver? mild off roading?

I daily drive mine, plus do 1-2 off road trips a month [desert/mountains], and the routine items I go through are pitman/idler arms, the odd ball joint and alternators. With the services added in I think I run about $2000/yr in maintenance and that's doing a lot of it myself.
