Spares - What do you keep in the home garage?

Post by nitrous »

Hey Guys,

Just wondering what you keep as spares aroud the house for your H1?

Seems as though parts aren't the easiest to come by in short order unless you live in or at least close to a major city. If you are going wheeling and you are the only H1 in the group what kind of spares do you take with you? I know this is a hard question as the sky is the limit, but are there some typical parts you keep on hand on a just in case basis?

Thanks.

You should always carry a spare when off roading. When daily driving, a good same size spare at home is not a bad idea. CAA is needed to get you back home or have the better half drive you out a spare, jack and t wrench. Provided they can load that tire themselves and find your tools. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... #>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

The expense of having a spare will at least keep you wheeling instead of parking for a week or more.

I carry 2 spares per vehicle when off roading. You never know!! I have destroyed 2 tires on two different trips. At least I could drive home again.

At my shop, I carry 3 used sets and a new set of tires, 3 complete sets of rims.CTIS fittings..............

And very soon, a hummer recovery roll off.

I have enough tools in my H1 wagon to disassemble and reassemble anywhere!

Spare parts:

- Spare Tire

- Pitman arm

- Spare ECM

- Fuses

- nuts/bolts

I have most of the tools with me all the time and also carry all the necessary recovery gear (2 winches).

And First Aid kit is also important.

I do extreme offroading so a daily driver wouldn't need all of this.

You should post what year H1 you have, this may help with more custom tailored suggestions for spares (some vehicles had components that were more prone than other model years, etc).

Im developing my list, as I have a big trip coming up to Moab this fall, so my Garage spares, will also become my trail/trailer spares but it will be as follows:

Spare PMD (in my shop at ALL TIMES)

Stanadyne Diesel Additive (in my shop & truck at ALL TIMES)

Balljoints

Fuel Pump

Fuses (assorted)

Inner and Outer Geared Hub Seals - multiples & geared hub seal-driving kit

Bluehummer Limp-Home Kit

Bluehummer brake-line repair kit

Spare halfshaft bolts and nordlocks

Pair of Pads & Rotors

Tire puncture & seal repair kit

6L Lucas Hub Fluid

12L of Rotella Syn Oil

12L of Dexron III

6L of Redline Dex III Synthetic ATF (for the TC)

2 bottles of Ford additive (friction modifier) for the Auburn in the rear

8L of Gear Oil

Coolant

2 bottles of Redline water-wetter

Brake & Steering fluid

Stanadyne Fuel Additive

For trail spares I will have:

2 Idler Arms with Mounting Hardware

2 Pitman Arms

Spacers

2 Upper Ball Joints

2 Lower Ball Joints

Complete Front Tie Rod Assembly

Diesel Motor Mount

Spare Castle Nuts

Spare Ball Joint Mounting Hardware

Spare Steering Gear Mounting Hardware

Spare Pitman Arm Lock Washer & Nut

12 Cotter Pins

Fullsize spare tire.

(atleast, if not more) a rear halfshaft

I will also be packing an Oil & Tranny filter, and Tranny Gasket.

Im sure Im forgetting what else I keep on hand, I'll update as it comes to me.

Thanks Guys that gives me a pretty good idea.

Fingers crossed I'll be an H1 owner in a couple weeks time.

Just trying to figure out what I might need to stock in the garage and have ready for the trail.
