ECU programming

Post by Sub »

Guys, noticed one of the good things to carry as spare is PMD and ECM (ecu) , i saw lots of used ecu going around 50-200 dollars but i b eleive they need special programming, who does programming? is it very easy or pure dealer only process?

Thats a good ideal, im interested as well. If its as easy as buying a used ECU and getting it programmed; perferably with a tune, it would be good to swap and test, and keep one as a spare.

there are 2 options: 200.00 already programmed - requires vin# b4 sale

second option - buy a used one of the k-series GMpick ups 6.5l and have it programmed

but question, is programming avaib locally?

I ordered a Heath programmed ECU for my truck and kept the factory ecu as a backup\spare or in case I need to pass smog testing...

Cost me about $600 for a tested used ECU reprogrammed by Heath Diesel, no core charge and included shipping...

Fuel economy better, not much noticeable power increase. I have a Heath ECU set up for performance. You can try it out if you like.

Sorry for the delayed response, been way to busy this last month with work.

For my truck was a big improvement going to the Heath tune, truck is WAY more responsive and doesnt seem to struggle as much any more either.

Also firmed up the shift points for the transmission,

Milage improvement is ok as well, considering my truck has 40" tire, I think my the last time I calculated it with about 30% city and 70% hwy driving maintaining fairly steady speed of 90-100Km, I managed 250Miles to a single Aux tank which I think worked out to 18MPG.

I also have a straight piped exhaust, "25Hp" injectors, mechanical wastegate and oversized fuel delivery lines.

And now I am planning an intercooler install... I have water\meth injection but not to impressed with it and I hate filling the water tank

thanks for the deep feedback, totally sold on the HEATH , question... how can i get it?(of course with my recomendations and requests) or this tune is preset, so my concerns do not apply(eg power, shifting ,fuel, torque)?

I got mine thru Patrick at Walking J Designs

http://walkingjdesigns.myshopify.com/

He actually sourced the ECU and then collected all the info and sent it Heath to be programmed then shipped it to me.

the only issue I had was initially I left the vaccuum actuated wastegate on, and it would throw boost codes and then not produce any boost.

when I swapped out for a mechanical wastegate it solved the problem and truck is way more consistent boost wise.

I did mine over a year ago, so you will need to contact Patrick and see if he still offers that service.

I think it ran me about $600 but that included the ECU, so I have my factory ecu as a backup.

otherwise I believe RubberDuck 4x4 resells the Heath ECU. but you will need to send yours in as a core.
