A couple a old fellers who retired out in the Pass from the Quad Squad named Joe and Bernie, took the time yesterday to haul their quads up to the staging area at York Creek and then haul the three of us up that mountain to rescue my Buggy! Took both of them to pull it out too! One up on the hill above me and pulling 'up' and 'across' and one out in front pulling 'straight on.' She was pretty deep and laying on her side on at least a 45* angle. On the way up the mountain, we took a wrong turn (my fault) and ended up on a southerly trail that went up and into the snow quite quickly.... we kept going though just cuz SOME of the terrain seemed familiar!! Anyways, we got stuck several times each and I did a fair bit of walking to lighten the load and just when I was about to tell them we should turn back cuz I think I got it wrong.........we came around a corner and found to young ladies who had gotten THEIR quads stuck! So we spent about half hour and extracted them and we all went back down together - getting stuck a few more times on the way down I might add - to find the correct trail. The girls went another way, and we went up and found the Buggy no problem.

Kinda cool we went all the way up that WRONG TRAIL huh? There was a reason for it!

High praise to the Quad Squad for their generous help!! But more importantly, for all the hard work they do as a club in trail maintanence, formation, bridge building AND fighting the government and tree-huggers who keep trying to shut the whole damned area down for ANY motorized vehicles!

He is probably right, the only thing holding the line on is a little screw once you get to the end. They say you need a full 6 wraps around the drum to get the full development strenthg of the line. I marked mine at 8 wraps with some tape so I know how far out it is.

Just read this and had to laugh Nick! I repaired my winch easily enough JUST last night lol - just had to burn the end of the line so I could twist it up some, and then fed it back onto the spool and wrapped it up 8 TIMES (great minds think alike) before I took out some yellow spray paint and sprayed about 2 feet of line so I know where my limit is next time!!!

Yeah that is great they have a good group down there to look after the trails, a solid community is the #1 way to keep things open for everybody. Great job recusing the girls too, you are right, somethings things do happen for a reason!

I don't suppose you had the chance to ask the quad squad gents about truck trails in the area at all?

The trail we headed down had a few bridges that were only big enough for quads, with secondary water crossings on the side that we were using for the Hummers. I was worried that the trail may have been designated for light vehicles only, and when we got to the steep hill that was another factor we were considering. It was obvious that somebody had put a lot of improvements into the hill for drainage and material repair, and I didn’t want to be tearing it up with a truck if it wasn’t designed to handle that. We didn’t go up the hill in the end, partly because we were scared of it and partly because I was uneasy about continuing on down the trail if it was indeed just for quads.

Wanted to bump this thread;

Apparently unlike up here where trails marked with quad signs are for quads only; Quad trails down south are all jeep trails unless there is a sign posted at the trailhead with a picture of a jeep with a cross through it.
