Interesting Martin.. I believe there are a lot for rules and regulations in the Car/Truck industry that is stopping them from doing the rolling chassis idea....AMG does not want to become a OEM dealer of Trucks..they told us that out flat..
As for the 100K ticket.. I agree it is a bit high but you are getting a brand new HUMMER... when was the last time anyone could say that? and when was a Brand NEW HUMMER available?? as for the Kit car idea.. this isn't some imitation truck.. this is the real McCoy.. the same chassis, hubs, suspension, body, hood, dash, etc as a Humvee today and not made by a third party but by AMG themselves and rolling off the same line as the trucks are made on today.
As for the doors, that was one of my concerns as well.. cold and theft is a big concern to me too.. but I do believe you will have an option for an insulated soft top.. they are available on the market today and there are softtop driven in the winter so I believe that would be okay. But the doors are a concern.. maybe the option of the steel X door might happen, not sure...
There are about 15K in options from AMG on the truck, like CTIS, AC, and I think some other creature comforts.. can't recall them all...but the truck does come painted..it has three options.. Tan, Green, and Khaki..very military like..
I would say you are gonna be close to 100K for sure, no matter how you slice or dice it..but maybe there will be a business that will buy these and then build them for resale..would you but it for 100K then??
The price of 69K gets you in the door faster and allows people to work on them at their own pace and not be out of pocket 100K upfront.. also since these are the same bodies.. everything will be bolt on ready from the existing trucks, that is the nice thing..
They did make a statement that this isn't for everyone, and HUMMERs never really were, but I truly believe that these will sell..the southern sates have a lot of tour companies and businesses that need trucks like this..and the factors that are negatives to us Canadians will be not an issue for them..to sell 50 trucks to me seems like the easy start.. it will be what AM General does to follow that up? Will they make changes, options, or differences after the first fifty? Will the market demand differences and how far will AM General take this? To me I believe that AM General has learned that there is a need for a truck to be on the market again and here is their first attempt to put one out there and to answer the public's demand.
What happens next is yet to be seen but I believe we are at the beginning of something very cool...with a lot of options and custom changes possible..and of course a new era for Hummer/Humvee...and CHC was the first to officially hear about it.. This is exciting...

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
I agree with your statement Derek, there is a demand and the off-road vehicle selection in North America is pretty dismal at the moment. HUMVEE is an icon and recognized the world over, and people will always pay out just for that.
What I think is really interesting is this approch, which in my opinion is to put these in the hands of enthusiasts rather than some company that will just throw 26" rims and adverts on it. Branding is such a huge part of their business, and this is a great way to have more off-road built HUMVEE's on the road.
All this said, if I was going to go the H1/HUMVEE route... there is at least a half dozen H1's for sale around my area for anywhre from 29K to 45K. They may have a few miles and some wear and tear on them, but most come with doors, hard top & a working drive train. You could get them cleaned up and working good as new for a lot less than 100K.

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
I agree Nick.... my H1 was a mess when I got it too.. and I have dumped a ton of $$$ into it..and if I kept going.. I could easily hit 100K but I would still be dumping money into a truck that is 16 years old...like many others...
anyways there is options for all I am curious to see how this works out...

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
Ive already started down the research path to beable to run a 24v 5.9 and allison 1000 6sp as a standalone package. Theres a bit of computer fiddling involved, but to make the allison standalone is not as complicated as i initaly thought, your able to just use the TCM out of a 06+ gm truck, to get it to work, not having the BCM for it to communicate with doesnt effect it at all. And just hooking up a few Batt/ignition sources, Neutral/park switches, engine speed sensor (built into certian models of allison 1000) and your almost ready to go; all thats left is a TCM flash to get it all to jive. Heres a good thread for anyone who wants to read.
http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthrea ... ide-thread
The most complicated thing is wiring up a TPS sensor to the pedal so the transmission TCM knows what engine load its reciving to calculate shift firmness; 3 wires and a few resistors <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... e_wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />
Next is to see whats needed to get the 24v 5.9 to run standalone, this should be easier to find. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... iggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />
700hp 1300+tq humvee here i come <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... SMILEY.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> one step at a time
Time to start collecting parts

Re: The Am General NEW Humvee C-Series
Just found this on the net, could pose a problem for us Canadians.
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/safevehicles/importation/usa/vafus/list2/Section2_0.htm
Scroll down to the Kit Car listing.... <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... nfused.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />
I hope there is more to that information then just that.

But then there is this http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/roadsafety/tp-tp2436-rs200804-menu-685.htm#amateur1 Looks like some serious research will be needed.
