help with transmission

I'm having a big ordeal here in Fredericton.My alternateur died on my way here (1994 H1) As I was driving with a bad alternator,I began to have transmision problems.It wouldnt shift.Is it possible that if my battery is completely uncharged it could keep my transmission from shifting.I will fill you in on the whole story when and if I make it back home.

Thanks Humtek.You are absolutely right.And for everyones info,you can drive for a little over an hour on a fully charged battery and no alternator.My main problem is my alternator.It isn't charging at all.Having it rebuilt tommorow and hopefuly everything will be fine.Thanks to Roy for a speedy reply to my e-mail.Gave me a big boost of confidence. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' /> <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ght_on.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':right_on:' />

Instead of rebuilding alt. buy a NAPA with warranty!! May safe your funds in the future.Check into it.

Thats what we tried to do,but,we can't find the prper part number.I presume the previous owner switch model and changed the bracket so the one delivered didn't fit.They took one of an old chevy 6.5 deisel and it fit,but never got a charge from it.When I pick up the rebuilt,I will ask him for a part number.The one I took off to rebuild has a 7 inch straight bolt pettern across center of alternator.The one NAPA delivered was 6.25 inches across. <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... ngHead.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':banghead:' />

Just for the info... A good battery has 12.7 v .At 11.8v more than likely at 5%. .

Hummers with stock starters need 2 -90%+ batteries to turn them over at a given speed that allows the computer enough voltage to start the injectors.

I have seen good batteries cranking engine over with no start. Just not enough power.A little charging and away it runs.

We had a great time anyway.Thanks Roy.Guy from garrage said both bad batteries were only giving out about 1,5 Amps,even if they read close to 12 volts.
