Optima Red Top Battery

Post by Gadgets »

Just need to confirm something. My battery is dying in my H2, I want to put a Optima Red Top in to replace it, but more than one site says it won't fit when using their battery selector thingy. So, need to come to the real world experts. Does this thing fit, are there any mods that need to be done to make it work?

Yes an Optima Red top will fit without any issues in the H2. However, it is considerably smaller than the stock battery when it comes to storage capacity and overall strength. I would highly encourage you to get an Odyssey Battery, these are way better batteries and one Odyssey battery is the equivalent of two stock batteries! I along with several other members have these batteries and will never go back to any other battery. I do have the Optima Red top in several of my vehicles but I have had the odd problems with them and have already had to replace 2 of them so far and the next time one dies and it is not covered under warranty, then in goes the Odyssey and total peace of mind! Trust Me!

Plus if you need something to start with total ease no matter the temperature...Odyssey is the only way to go!

Hmmm fair enough. I was always told Optima is the way to go, but sounds like this is the better choice. You should know, I'm sure your battery has bounced around enough when out on your playground. So, if that is the case, which one am I looking for anything specific?

I have even used my battery to power another H2 to get it back to where a flatbed could pick it up after it's alternator died. That was about 30km! When I got back to my H2, the other guys were getting their booster pack ready. I connected the battery and closed the hood...then started my H2 without any problem! And yes I have beat the crap out it both with bouncing around and long periods of winching...it is a Really Great Battery!

Oh god, those are expensive batteries! My truck need new ones and from what I have found from my research is that interstate batteries are great for the price of them. Interstate mtp-78 is the battery Phil recommended I get as well. Brian you are nuts for paying that much.

I really don't see it that way, paying $275 for a battery and then having peace of mind no matter where you are or what you are doing, is more than worth it! So you might save $100 bucks...if you need a boost in the winter it just cost you more than that in time and frustration! This battery was design for the military for vehicles that may sit for months on end with the battery connected and they need to be able to start NOW when needed! Also a lot of emergency vehicles use them for the same reasons...when you need them to work having a dead battery just plan sucks! Remember these batteries will gradually fade out, not work one minute and then not the other like most batteries...you do get what you pay for!! Besides you will spend way more than that on a tire without even a murmur...so why should it be different when it comes to you actually being able to enjoy your tires and your Hummer in general!

Sorry just my 2 cents...mine has already saved my butt countless times when I really should not have been able to restart after winching!!

It cost more then I wanted to spend, but I was looking at the Optima all this time and it was $208 from Autozone. So this isn't that much more. I have burned through a lot of batteries in my vehicles mostly because of all my added electronics, or back when I used to race r/c cars outside, we charged them from the vehicles. I've had expensive, I've had cheap, I've had deep cycle batteries. I want to rely on my battery come hell or high water. I have read so much about what off-roading does to a battery being bounced and jarred around, shortening their life, I was going with Optima. Then when Polar Bear presented this battery, with his experience, then I researched it, I am quite sure I will be happy. Is is a lot of $$$ yeah, will it be worth it, only time will tell. I do like the 880 CCA though!
