A few options on the table:

Option 1: Spray Lakes Route

Most people with the club are familiar with this, good run from Cochrane to Canomre not using the major highways.

Option 2: Lake Louise

Cochrane to Canmore via Bow Valley trail, then highway until just past banff (probably stop in Banff for fuel and maybe do a quick loop past the Banff Springs Hotel for pictures?) then turn off onto the Bow Valley Parkway to lake Louise. There is a pub called "outpost Pub" in one of the hotels that looks decent. Trip there is about 2.5hrs.

Option 3:

That Altagas route (service road, not trail) that pops out near Banff sounds interesting. JL would need to be there as I think he is the one that discovered this route goes through.I am going to guess that route is somewhere between 2 to 3 hours, plus another half hour back to Canmore.

Yup last year was the Spray Lakes routes. Unfortunately the Trans Alta road ends at the park boundary and there isn't any vehicular access available past that point. A guy could travel to Minnewanka from there as there are hiking/cycling/equine trails but tragically... no chance to drive it.

I was out and about today trying to find some good back roads for the trip and really, I think the Sibbald Creek / Spray Lake route is still the best option. Although one idea I've been playing with is a potential road from Bragg Creek to Sibbald Creek trail but I didn't make it out that far today to check into it. In theory this road goes from Bragg Creek and eventually spits out around the rifle range, but it's always impossible to tell based on the satellite maps if you're heading into private property, gated or if the road is even passable... Logging road by the looks of it? Don't have high hopes for it overall but might be a possibility...

If I can get out next weekend to check it out I will - otherwise my vote goes to Sibbald Creek / Spray Lakes like last year!

Lake Loise sounds nice but mainly highway...

I must admit, the one nice this about the Sibbald Creek trail is back road and we can still play a little bit... We gotta keep playing!!
