Hope all had a very Merry Christmas and a prOsperous new year is around the corner...

Should we plan something for January? I'm up for it to minus 12... I don't go past that as just too cold...

Also we need to finalize the radio order... I believe this is a must so we can order together or separately but we do need to get these new radios settled, I'm backing Nick and will order with him as he's done is research and those ones simply make sense and I'll assume they will work with Greg's as well...

I will start looking into it pretty seriously right after new years... haha.

I need a list of people who want the radio's, I will setup a new thread in about a week for that

I don't find them to be the most versatile unit when you need to get out of the truck to spot. I suppose we could all get portable CB units, but I will warn you that mine takes 9 AA batteries and has piss poor reception unless I hook it up to that external K20 antenna... and even then it doesn't get very good range, it also wasn't cheap. I guess we can go on using a combination of FRS and CB's like we do now, I personally just gave up on using CB when we go out because I just don't find it practical.

The reason I was looking at MUR radios is they should outperform CB in terms of reliable reception, range, and massively on portability because they draw so little power to operate. Basically the same size as FRS, only they use less power and have significantly longer range. Dave wants to go for the Motorola's which are in the 200$ range, but there are other brands of MUR radios closer to 100$. That makes them reasonably affordable when compared to other systems like HAM VHF/UHF (which require licenses as well).

Anyway, I am open to ideas here. I don't want to bamboozle anybody into something they don't want.

I'm for the murmaids!!

This is a critical safety component in my books and a tool that we use the most when on the trails so I think we need versatility, reliability, and endurance for battery life..

I didn't know this thread existed until just now....

I can get the 'Hummer Club' frequencies. It only makes sense to get radios with the same frequency.

Should I see what I can find?

This is the one I might try to place an order for.

http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-RDM2020-Portable-Two-Way-Radio/dp/B00525ZT0Y/ref=sr_1_51?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1357422083&sr=1-51&keywords=MUR+radio

I am leaning towards MURS mostly because we should be able to broadcast on the MUR's channels legally with no licenses
