Picked up a 1999 H1 - wow

I was lucky enough to buy a H1 from another member on this forum. The H1 is by far the coolest vehicle I have ever driven.



I've only had it a week but I've been ordering a lot of equipment to update it. (GPS, back up cam, lane change radar and adaptive cruise to start).



Has anyone here used alternative fuels in their H1? I've ordered viton seals and new fuel lines so that that rubber is replaced. i am wondering if there are any possible problems in the llift pump, fuel pump, or injector pump hardware when using alternative fuels?

To run biodiesel, there are no changes that need to be made other than a fuel heater if you plan on running a B100. Many sites will tell you long grocery list of all the parts you need to change...those are only to make money not because you need to use them! What most people don't realize is that when Rudolf Diesel made the first diesel engines they where built to run on peanut oil...not diesel fuel! As well our pump and injectors will enjoy the extra lubrication of the biodiesel over the low sulfur diesel it would normally run. Also your oil will stay cleaner due to less soot from the combustion process. One thing to pay attention too would be your fuel filter, change it more often only since the biofuel is a tad thicker you need to make sure it stays clean!

Welcome to the wonderful world of the H1. Unless you have some specific reason for going right to biodeisel, stay with dino-fuel for now. If the last owner has been running it, and you switch to bio, the bio fuel will definitely clean out your system and run all the gunk through your filter. You do not want that filter gumming up in the middle of nowhere. There are some great additives you can put into your fuel to increase lubricity and prevent gelling. And as for your quote from Ecclesiastes, that truck will scatter stones !!!

It's an amazing world. I won't go back! As I am a daily driver, is there anything I should be looking out for? I have purchased a backup PMD, ECU, and fuel filters. I also ordered OBD II scanner but I am having a tough time getting beyond a few sensors.

Scanguage II provides a cheap and extremely wide range of options for monitoring upto 4 parameters (IAT, Trans Temp, Coolant Temp, Boost PSI, etc etc) at one time.



Run the Stanadyne additive, and make sure the belt, and all the fluids are up to par.

start lookin for spare lift pump as they weaken pretty fast. in 2 years i had to go through 3 of them. keep truck under 65 miles per hour!

Hey Hesh,



He has figured out how to pull the program from the on-board computer, and is in the process of dis-assembling it. This will give him access to EVERYTHING and can re-write the script to suit. He is planning on commenting it out so other programmers can clearly see what sections of code do what. This will not be something for the "regular Joe" kind of guy, but advanced programmers will have fun with I'm sure.
