These are the 7 standard Hummer frequencies. They're used by Hummer groups all over North America including The Hummer Club Inc.

I have one myself.

Any radio shop can program them.

VHF

1. 151.625

2. 154.540

3. 151.715

4. 151.745

5. 151.815

6. 151.900

7. 151.925

BTW, I'm not a radio nerd... I mean radio expert...

I don't like pissing with radio stuff, I just want it to work, and work well, every time.

I was reading up on this a bit, these ones above are commercial VHF frequencies. From what I gather, licensing for them is pretty commonly ignored, although one is still required. It doesn't look to be too hard to get a license, a few hoops, but less than 50$ a year from Industry Canada.

The MUR's radio frequencies I was talking about are as follows (so it looks like Channel 5 above will become subject to interference from MUR's in the future)

151.81438 – 151.82569 MHz

151.87438 – 151.88563 MHz

151.93438 – 151.94563 MHz

154.56000 – 154.58000 MHz

154.59000 – 154.61000 MHz

Industry Canada has already designated them for use and the implementation period is nearly over. Should be totally legal for use and no licensing of any kind required.

Greg is correct though, we could just buy commercial VHF radios and have a radio shop program in whatever we want.

I've got a bunch of pallets kicking around that I need to get rid of sometime this month, anybody want them? They make great firewood!

I like the idea of the new MUR radios. But I think it would be valuable to buy a couple of them first and do a head to head test out in the mountains with them as see how they perform compared to the CB radios and yelling, our two other methods of communication. that way we can test it in our application. Who knows maybe the reception is great but to save battery power they put a small speaker in it so when you have your engine on you can't hear anyone talking on it?

I think for a group buy we should still be able to make it work rather than having to buy them all at once blind.

Almost every company I have ever dealt with when trying a new product has been willing to sell a couple units at the same price as a group buy as a trial with the promise of a larger order if they work as advertized.

That's my 5 cents.

Actually it looks to be pretty promising if we pick up MUR's... we can still stick to channel 5 if we ever want to commicate with other Hummer clubs radios, and it keeps everything nice and legal (well... by 2014 anyway).

Battery power should be better just because they use less than half the watage output than FRS radios.

I will place an order for 2 of them tonight. That way we can play around with them a little bit next time we are out, maybe do some hard comparisons to see exactly how they stack up against FRS and CB for range, clarity, ect. Also make sure they interface properly with Gregs existing radios.

Sweet. If they work really well maybe I can take that CB off the dash and hide it somewhere. It isn't the most attractive thing.

Now I just need a... oh what's it called, the thing that takes up most peoples time for 40 to 60 hours a week. Oh that's right a JOB. Then I can play with toys again and get a more appropriate daily driver so I can wheel the truck without worry.
