H2 Low oil pressure when cold

Post by DuhBigDog »

Hi

This is my first post to the site, I have a 2005 H2. she has 330K Km of which i have had the pleasure of driving 280K, she has had any and all maintenance as required, never missed an oil change but four months ago the oil pressure gauge spiked over and stayed there. Master Mechanic replaced the sensor and all seemed well, a month later as it got into cold mornings i noticed the oil pressure staying low on start up ( about half of normal) until the engine warmed up as that happened the oil pressure slowly comes up to normal.

Master Mechanic replaced the oil sensor again and checked the pressure with a gauge, Its doing what it says its doing, they then did a special oil flush but its still the same.

Any Ideas ?

Hopefully it is not a oil pump issue ? Any codes ? Don't hesitate to call Jeff or Steve and ask questions .

I would highly encourage to simply replace the oil pump BEFORE you have to replace an engine! If they are reading the same gradual pressure build on a external pressure gauge that the truck gauge is reading...replace the pump before it is too late!

Thanks for the help, i talked to the garage, they want to run another oil flush before looking at the oil pump. Ive had oil additive used every 5000 km oil change since 50 Km, they think it might have a partially plugged oil passage. ??

They says the oil pump change is a 10 hour job, does that sound right ??

The time does sound about right...I would figure closer to 7-8hours but I am sure they have estimated for the unexpected!

Once you remove the front differential...the oil pan access is pretty decent!
