I recently had this happen to me, so here is what I did! The info is from FlashOffroad and the pics are really good. However I did not have to drill any hole as I have the updated steering column lower cover that has a built-in access hole. Also I extended all the wires at the base of the shifter not just the one that was broken and I covered it will a heavy gauge wire loom to protect it from any further problems and now I have no more headaches!!!

Re: Key stuck in Ignition or stuck in park
Very interesting. I've had a number of times when the key can't be removed. Usually by knocking either the steering column or gear shifter it finally turns and comes out. The screws in the centre console have already been removed before I bought it, I though maybe border security had ripped it apart ... maybe not! Every time I take the truck into the shop, the battery goes dead. I just thought it was them playing the radio or leaving the doors open... Maybe not.
Would you replace the ignition and inspect the shifter wires? Or do you think it would just be the shifter wires?

Norm, if you have a phillips screw driver and about 1 hr you can fix it yourself! I can almost guarantee that it is the red wire that has broken 85% of the way thru and that is why sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't...just depends on the position of the wire! You would save yourself a ton of cash and frustration by doing it yourself!

Re: Key stuck in Ignition or stuck in park
Just had this happen to me. My key would not turn back to turn off inside controlls or let the key come out. Took the shifter apart and found the yellow wire broke going to the shifter. It looked like a clean cut
