One thing I always find funny with this is how everyone points the finger at us and never really checks their facts. Most people don't realize that the majority of the Supercars and UltraLuxury cars consume far in excess of any Hummer or Pickup. For that matter most Fords get worse fuel economy than any Dodge or Chevy Pickups/SUV/Van. It is funny when you shake the Tree Huggers world at the roots their supposed green foundation is very weak!

And in fairness, the H2 really isn't as bad on gas as everyone made it out to be. I drive an 03 Dodge Durango, Dad drives an 07 H2. I get 17.3L/100KM, he gets 19.

Even worse, a FD F350 diesel with a full load burns 25L/hour. Thats worse that a H1  flat towing another  H1

I read a study a few years ago called Dust to Dust. It included the entire life cycle of a vehicle, from mining, smelting, it's construction and use, then all the way scrapping. A Prius is only slightly better than an H1 because the Hummer has a longer life and the Prius has lead batteries. Aluminum cars were especially bad.

 Prius has lead batteries.

I dont know too much about the first gen priuses and what batteries they came with, but the current ones use litium ion cells. I can not believe i actually wanted one when they first came out, but i wanted one for a different reason then the "BS fake eco image" they present, i was intriqued by the drive system in general, and the whooosh of electric drive low end torque.

I use alot of lithium poly batts in my RC stuff, and that got thinking the other day. One of the manufacturing components of modern lithium batteries is nickel, and this past winter i took a trip to sudbury where something blew my mind a bit. If anyone has been to sudbury, and knows that theres one of the largest nickel mines up there, pay attention to the tree line and density as you approach the city. Being burried in the hart of northern ontario would would think that the place would be teeming with pine trees, but you get a surprise when you notice that theres barely any trees within a 20km radius of the city, they are only now starting to slowly grow back. Back in the 80's up there my dad tells me that there were barely any trees at all, because they do nickel smelting near the mine, one of the by products of smelting is sulphur dioxide gas, which when it rains turns into acid rain, which killed all the trees. Nowadays they have advanced stripper filters in the stacks, but the process still isnt perfected, and the trees are growing back very Very slowly. So thats something to note when you encounter a wannabe greene during this eco fad. You wanna be super green, drive a 25yr old W123/W124 diesel mercedes and run it on straight fry oil, then youll be doing your part

With that said, i have nothing against electric vehicles, "when done right" ie. performance sporty orented, or luxury performance vehciles which is where electric motors really excell, and with the extra cost associated with these "premium" vehicles allow manufacturers to advance the technology. You cant advance technology on a budget!

And another thing i like to keep in mind, many of us that drive "out of the norm" vehicles are car guys, and its kinda our hobby ;D
