16" wheels on an H2

Post by Autumn Walker »

I was asking about this over at H4O and nobody seemed to have a definitive answer, so I decided to find a wheel and try it myself. Below is a pic of a 2500 HD spare wheel on my H2 - 16" diameter, 7" wide, with 5" of backspacing.

This opens us up to using our Military's 38" Michelin XML tires. Below is a shot of the tire resting on my hub; unfortunately, the tires were on Ford wheels so they won't bolt up to our trucks... but I have a set of 16's that'll fit and I'm getting the XMLs on Friday.

I don't understand why it would be a debate, our H2s use the same brakes and suspension as a Chevy 2500HD and 3500 so there is no reason why the rims wouldn't fit?

Cool to see you trying out the military tires...you might find them very heavy though especially if you have stock gears...but wow what a look!

So when are you going to have all 4 installed?

Minor (major?) setback... the wheels that the guy had for me were not a matched set - 3 were 16" and one was 16.5". Cannot find a full set of 16" wheels with the chev bolt pattern anywhere.

Not giving up yet, but it's looking dicey that these will be bolted on by Friday.

They won't fit without a lift.

There is a military surplus store here in Nova Scotia that sells them. I think they have about 30 in stock right now. It's an off the grid type place in Aylsford.

The front tires rub a tiny bit at full lock on the back of the fender liner and the rears will rub a bit when stuffed on the front of the fender liners - just enough to clean the mud off. No rubbing on any suspension components, frame, etc.
