Thanks to everybody who came out... was a great run, so much snow. As per our tradition we didn't make it to the falls yet again, the water crossings were completely impassable. It will take at least a solid month for the huge ice wall to melt and for the crossing to open up.

I think I need to get a handheld camera, the GoPro is great... but so much time to get it setup that I miss a lot. Also my dashcam is mounted too high for bad weather... needs to be like 1" lower so it can get a more clear shot
 
 
One of these days I need to figure out what that clicking noise is, and if it is serious. Last time I had the clicks, it started doing it whenever I accelerated heavily, turned out to be the transfer case chain slipping. In about 2 months my vehicle is completely off warranty too :( The transfer cases in these trucks are the weak point, lots of problems with them on the US forums. No real alternative either which sucks.
 
On the plus side whenever it clicks I let off right away, probably saves other components when I start stressing the driveline

Yup.. That was a bit louder than usual and definitely more from the rear...


I need an alignment now from hitting that stone so no biggy... Great day overall! Had a lot of fun as always! Amount of snow was unbelievable!!

Starting to look into aftermarket transfer cases, but a custom job with an Atlas or a Monster Box is on a way higher level that I can do. I'd have to get help from a shop locally... so at least 10K I am guessing. I am tempted, but that is a lot of dough... plus if I strengthen the transfer case, maybe I will blow a diff instead?
 
Now apparently a brand new transfer case already filled is about 1200$ USD... pretty easy install to boot. It is 4 bolts, the U-Joints and a clip for the control motor. That is probably cheaper than getting the chain replaced at my own cost.

I would go with the new one... Nothing like starting over fresh...


Especially with a slipping chain.. Will be wearing down the gears too..

Seems to be a ton of problems with this transfer case... a lot of people are starting to link it to other issues such as the clunking noise when you stop or start, and steering binding issues that have most owner baffled (including myself).
 
In cases where it has been swapped out for a new one, clear sailing with no problems. Not so much for rebuilds, like mine they get very little mileage before issues start to come up again.

If you start to look into it, most owners have either '06-'07s with the plastic shift fork OR are 2009/2010 with the front locker. It really wouldn't be surprised if the front locker adds to rotational mass or friction/resistance to rotating causing both the steering issues and wear and tear on the t-case. At least that's my theory. I've yet to read that someone with a base model '08,'09,'10 with the problem.
