New Member, potentially old problem

Post by duncanpa »

Hey,

Great site.  Just came across it today.  I found the US site, but the google search didn't list your site as an option.  I registered as soon as I found you guys.  I have a 2003 Hummer H2, deep red metalic exterior and a grey leather interior.  I have added some options such as factory Navigation System, Chrome fuel door, stainless steel nerf side steps, stainless steel rear bumper lettering as well as cargo rack lettering.  I love my Hummer!!  I bought it and my wife wouldn't speak to me for 2 months.  It was a long two months, but now she will even sit her but in it and has even said she enjoys riding in it (although, she does not like the attention it brings...). <img src='http://www.canadianhummerclub.com/forum ... >/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

Now, the problem thing.  I have had a warning to add engine coolant to my Hummer.  Since it is a closed system, I began looking for any leaks.  I could not detect any, but phone and have an appointment at the Hummer Dealership.  While looking online for potential problems, I came across a real disturbing notice.  Apparently GM has had a long history of problems with their gaskets, particularly the intake manifold gasket.  One site stated that the problems usually occur right after the warranty is over (which mine just ended in April) and the repair cost in VERY EXPENSIVE!!  If this turn out to be the problem, I will be very upset to say the least.  Has anyone else come across this problem??  If so, is there any recourse with GM?  Anyone have a mechanic in Ontario who is familiar with Hummers who might be able to get cheaper parts or labour?  I am hoping that this is not the problem, but preparing for the worst!! (my wife says it's just my luck!!!)

welcome to the site,

Where are you located, there are a couple of Guys in Ontario that are good with Hummers....

As for OEM Parts, PM Dizzy, he may have a contact for you

as for the issue, I have a 05 H2, no problems like that...as of yet at least, this is why I bought the extended warranty up to 140,000KMs or an additional 4 years, I have coverage till 2012 on my 05

Thanks for the welcome.  I tried to get an extended warranty, but I bought the vehicle in the US and the extended warranty was way to costly from the US carrier.  I have only had the vehicle since March and I have alread had to replace the windshield wiper motor.  Guess I should have researched Canadian Extended Warranties!!

I live in Parry Sound, so the closest Hummer Dealership for service in Barrie, Ontario.  I don't mind going to Toronto if the mechanic is good and the savings are there.  Do you know anyone who is good and relatively reasonable?

Thanks Pink,

I agree that we are nicer in Canada, but I bought the Hummer in the US and saved a bundle of money (about $14,000 at the time I bought).  Only cost me a plane ticket of $400 and $204 import fee (the Customs agent filled out all of the forms for me....er...it was 2:00 am and he had nothing better to do!!!)

I too hope everthing works out.  I'll let you know.
