FWIW, BC is anything but affordable - and that's if the poilice don't steal your vehicle because you missed a speed limit sign. Sales tax, carbon tax, tax on tax on tax.... Socialist insurance...

There are many places in the world to live - for me BC is very, very near the bottom of the list.  But that's me.

Sorry to hear about the job.  I'm at WSP and so far it's looking not too bad - we'll see what happens after Christmas.  Fingers crossed.  I still have to pay for my H2!!

One of my clients 'postponed' all their work until Q3 next year.

I think the oil markets might start recovery fairly quickly - but slowly.  I sure hope things improve.

Wow that happened fast... 200 people got notice today

They were going to get rid of me right away, but I am running home office construction support for one of our sites until the 9th.... so that is my finish date now.

Not sure what I am going to do, seems like lots of places are not hiring right now

No worries, this might be a blessing in disguise. It finally gives me an opportunity to pursue some educational goals I have been meaning to do for the past 10 years or so

I might be signing up for upgrading in January as a full time student... Physics, Math, English and Chemistry. It would be a nice change of pace for me.

Once I have decent marks for those, I have some long term plans to pursue an engineering degree. This removes one of the major obstacles in getting there.

Why would anyone want to be an engineer????

Says the guy whose wife has a PhD in Engineering......

It's a noble goal!! Now might be a great time to pursue it.

I think mostly because as much as I wanted it, it was never really an option for me... back in the day I had no money saved up for school, my grades sucked, and on top of that I was so sick of being poor at that point I just wanted to get out there and get a job.

It was something I wanted to do, and now I finally have the means. I've also exhausted my current career path, so I am looking for a new mountain to climb. I think this one will provide me with some good opportunities I don't have access to now.

A hiatus from work will at least give me some time to put in a more solid foundation towards building this dream

It's my opinion that education - ANY education - is s very good thing.  And, for the most part, it's fun to do.

Anyway, way to go, I just hope that you can still manage the occasional day off road.
