Its great that some North American jobs were saved. I'm sure the community in south bend and employees of the plant think its great news as well.

It'sa good news for American GM manufacturing plant in Indiana! Right now they are not busy by producing Hummers any more, so for Indiana plant to work with Daimler- Benz is good idea! But better they will be busy to produce Hummers!

To me AMG seems to be a solid company and they know what they are doing. They have had fingers in the pie for a long time and its good to see them take on new stuff. It also understandable that they have moved on from the Hummer brand. You can't maintain a company supplying parts for a few aging, and for the most, part non compliant trucks in the modern age of 2015.
Most Hmmvw's were scrapped after leaving service less the small number you see on auction right now. All in all, if that program keeps going they might move about 10,000 DNA free trucks, maybe 4000 of them running sort of but most are not in running condition. They will sell between $10k and $40k each.So there are lots of cheap Hummer specific parts in the chain to support the few of us. Out of the 11,000 civi trucks built there is probably less than half of them still around and i think expecting AMG support ongoing is foolish. The brand is clearly being phased out.
Not sure how many military trucks were built. Probably around 1/2 million or less. That is not very many considering they made 680,000 1965 Mustangs.
In the end its going to be a few guys buying up all this crap and getting into the reconditioned parts biz a few years down the road. Not unlike the path of most collector car parts. Plus there will be problem solver types who can develop/improve some specific parts and systems for small market.
Maybe 10 percent of the market will survive long term as rust takes over!!

Wow, this truck looks awesome! Gelenvagen is the best of all Mercedes, as for me! But, unfortunately, when it comes to manufacturing, this design will be simplified a lot! It's fortune of all concept cars. It's very interesting innovation with converting water to hydrogen fuel cells, but I doubt that it will be enough power for this big truck from that kind of fuel.
