H3 blacked out park lights?

Post by erynkaye »

Wondering if anyone has blacked out the front park lights + side markers. What is the best way to do it? spray? film? order pre-smoked ones online?

I found lots of LED smoked-out park lights online for around $150, but haven't been able to find any black or smoked side markers, only clear.

I'd rather tint the existing ones if possible.

I would verify with your local authorities as Misnistry of transport may not allow it, In most countries, cars must be equipped with side-mounted turn signal repeaters to make the turn indication visible laterally rather than just to the front and rear of the vehicle.

According to Saskatchewan regulation

Side-marker lamps 39
(1) Subject to subsection (5), the vehicle shall have side-marker lamps located two on each side of the vehicle not less than 350 millimeters above the ground and as close to the corners as practicable.
(2) In addition to the lamps referred to in subsection (1), a vehicle over 10 meters long shall have side-marker lamps located one on each side close to the horizontal mid-point and not less than 350 millimeters above the ground.
(3) The side-marker lamps shall: (a) be visible from the side; ( 8) emit a red light from the rear-most lamps and an amber light from the foremost and, where fitted, mid-point lamps; and (c) be activated by the headlamp switch.
(4) Subsections (1) to (3) do not apply to type A-1 vehicles that were manufactured or assembled before January 1, 1972.
(5) Rear side-marker lamps are not required on power units. 4 Sep 87 cV-2.1 Reg 10 s39

I love the black out look, I'd def film it or get another smoked out lens. Paints to permanent ....

And keep your old set in case you get hassled

Get the film. The spray on tint always looks like garbage.

Ended up ordering these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FW36MM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER and will hold onto the old ones in the event I get into some trouble.

Thinking I will pop the side markers out and give them a spray with plasti + gloss so I can remove it if need be, the bulbs are out in mine anyway so might as well blend them right in. Have lots of dip left over from doing the grille too.

Thanks everyone!

I am so happy with how everything turned out. The park lights were plug-and-play and were super easy to install. Popped the side markers out while I had the head/park light housing out and gave them six coats of plasti-dip and they covered perfectly. Decided not to gloss them so they match the matte grille. Would recommend parking the truck somewhere warm/heated overnight before removing the grille because the clips will snap right off if they're cold. I also did LED's on the interior which look awesome. For $30 on Amazon you can get a 7 piece LED set which includes a license plate light.
