batteries don't like me

Post by Monk »

Well, batteries sounded weeker...engine turn tad slower....sooo I pop hood and see white crap everwhere..what a mess...

Im sure I only had a few more starts before that old battery was offically dead.

This was my rusty tray... I sanded everthing and then sray painted all black. .. and poured some oil on bottom tray after paint dried... to prevent more rust.

Might be worth opening that hood more often and making use of all your old toothbrushes and used transmission fluid. LOL

Actually you should wipe the oïl off! It will cause problems as the batteries shift in the tray.

Best thing to do...SCRAP the Crappy Tire Batteries and get some AGMs like an Odyssey.

Repaint your battery tray with POR (Paint Over Rust) and then put a thin rubber mat between the batterie and the trays.

I found the bar that holds battery was semi loose, so I put asome rubber pieces on the under side of the top bar and when tied hold down nicely...

I don't have a battery splash gard, so they get dirty fast, "rain/snow/salt" covers battery fast, I'll look around to find a splash guard, be nice to keep clean,

I like that rubber Matt idea as well !

Wow it became really rusty! What is the reason for such kind of rust?

Normally, that much rust in the battery tray is directly related to the acid that leaked from the battery

So, in this case, it's something wrong with a battery. It shouldn't be like that! May be it's better to replace it.

Yes the battery was as good as dead. It' was leaking acid all over, and rusted out the battery tray. So I bought 2 new batteries, then sanded and painted the tray, then put in the new batteries , what a difference starts fast! And all look nice. I'll take a finished pic tomorrow

I didn't even know there was that much rust, it dripped to the bottom of batteries and sat there, and ate the steel.

When I pulled them out, wow, what a mess, it took a bit to clean up before installing new batteries. Now happy

Wow, that old battery really created mess with your tray! I never see before that normally used battery could crack and leak acid all over!

Acid also leaks out when charging too fast, and when bouncing around while doing some off road adventures. I have replaced 2 trays on trucks, one the tray had rusted thru by the welds.
