Custom Rear ToolBox and Spare Tire Mount

Post by whitehumh2 »

So as many of you already know. I have a HUGE Custom Diamond plate aluminum tool box in the rear of my H2, that houses most all of my Tools. Well, I have been noticing that I need more space and more storage so I am rebuilding my rear tool box.

The current one is only 30 inches wide and rest against the spare and right plastic Wheel well cover.

The new one will be 46 inches wide and go from Wheel cover to Wheel cover!

My spare will now be lying flat on top of the box.

The new box will have 2 more full depth drawers. The larger lower drawer will house many spare parts like axle shafts and steering parts. The upper smaller drawer will be for long wrenches and prybars and other trail Tools. My main drawer will be for my larger tool case and for my recovery gear.

This project is also forcing me to have to modify my current On Board Air system to better use space and I will be mounting a 10gallon tank Under the rear of my H2 complete with skid plate!

So since at the moment I do not have any Tools to be able to weld aluminum, my welding dept. at work will be doing the fab work for me based on my plans and measurements.

This should be built and installed before the end of the month so Stay Tuned!!

And yes I will post pics of the before and during and after!

Kev

I agree!!! So when do You start building YOURS? ??? ::) :wavey:

You have no idea how much work it is to design and integrate it into the rear of my H2...Worth it BUT loads of work!

Btw, my add-on is costing about $500 so figure the whole box will be Worth well over $1500 by the time I complete the rack and shelving that I will be building in the window areas that will attach to it!

You can make it for WAY less than that BUT I choose strength as a priority due to all the heavy Tools and spare parts I carry.

As well, I made a massive box, if you cut the height down to half, it is more cost effective! Just dépends on what you want!
